Acer Iconia Tab P11 tablet review: when you want maximum features for minimum money

Published by Maksym Koliada

The Acer Iconia Tab P11 is a tablet that, at first glance, looks like a pretty interesting offer in the affordable device segment. Of course, because of this, it has some drawbacks that can affect the overall user experience. Packaging and equipment

The tablet comes in a fairly large cardboard box with two smaller packages inside. One of them contains the tablet itself in a shipping film, a 20 W charger, a USB-C cable, a paper clip for easy opening of the memory card tray, and accompanying materials: a quick user guide in many languages, technical recommendations for using the device, and a warranty card.

The other package contains a book case, which in theory will protect the tablet from external damage and even drops. A practical crash test occurred only once during the two-week testing period: a fall from the table to the carpet. I didn’t have to use a plantain, and everything was fine.

It’s a pity that there is no function to automatically lock/unlock the screen when the top cover is closed. Therefore, you have to train yourself to poke the unlock button in the upper-right corner of the tablet.

The equipment looks quite decent for its price segment. Although there are options with richer accessories, and there are also more minimalistic sets. Here we have «the golden mean».

Design and ergonomics

Acer Iconia Tab P11 looks stylish and modern. The aluminum body is only 8.1 mm thick, so the tablet looks thin and pleasant to the touch. Thanks to its weight of 550 g, it is comfortable to hold in your hands even for a long time.

The rear metal surface of the gadget hardly collects fingerprints. I used the tablet without a case. And I still have a pleasant tactile sensation. So you don’t have to wear it «or wear it».

In the upper-left corner is a slightly protruding module with the main camera and flash. In the middle is the Acer logo.

Near the camera, we see a rare visitor to tablets and smartphones — an LED. It glows red when charging, and green when the battery is full. In normal mode, it glows blue, acting as a notification indicator. For example, messengers or email client. A simple but practical feature.

The layout of the controls is well-thought-out: on the right side are the volume and screen lock buttons. The left side remains clear, and on the bottom edge there is a USB-C port, stereo speakers and a microphone, and on the «edge» there is a Jack 3.5 port for connecting a wired headset. The top edge has two more speakers that create a surround sound effect.

Thanks to its size, Acer Iconia Tab P11 is comfortable to hold in your hands, although the width of the device makes it more comfortable to use with both hands. The weight of the tablet is well-balanced, so even with prolonged use, you won’t feel any fatigue.

Display

The display is one of the main strengths of this device. It has a resolution of 2000×1200 pixels and measures 11 inches. The pixel density per inch is 212. Do you remember the gold standard named after Steve Jobs? 326! But we still keep the tablet farther away from our eyes than a smartphone, so this is not critical. And you won’t see any pixel grid irritating your eyes.

The refresh rate is 90 Hz and this makes animations smoother. In 2025, this looks like a compromise between the classic 60 Hz and 120+ Hz. The tablet does not position itself as a gaming tablet, so you can close your eyes to this.

The factory calibration of the screen is good. The colors are juicy, and the declared brightness of up to 400 nits is enough even for outdoor use. The declared color coverage is — 100% of the NTSC color space. HDR support is not «brought».

Acer claims QD-LCM (Quantum Dot Liquid Crystal Module) technology. In practice, when I compared the display with the Apple iPad Air 5 (almost a reference IPS), I noticed increased brightness and color saturation. But this makes the picture less natural.

There is no protective film or glass in the box, so we were able to evaluate the quality of the screen without bills. «Thick» bezels, by the way, is exactly the point when engineers shouldn’t always try to minimize everything. The oleophobic coating is not bad, though not exemplary. It collects fingerprints moderately.

There are no options to change the resolution, reduce the refresh rate or edit the color temperature in the options menu. The «Adaptive Brightness» function sometimes wants to reduce the brightness level a little too much.

All in all, this WUXGA+ display is great for watching videos, reading and editing documents. By the way, it is the largest in the Iconia line (8.7 to 11 inches) —.

Productivity, software, and games

The «beats the» heart of the MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core processor with clock speeds up to 2.2 GHz and ARM Mali-G57 MP2 graphics processor. RAM is 8 GB LPDDR4X and internal storage is — 256 GB UFS 2.2, expandable up to 512 GB via microSD card.

The gadget is sold only in a Wi-Fi version. In times of blackouts (ugh) — this can be considered a small disadvantage, because the speed drops dramatically, and even more so when distributing in modem mode.

The Helio G99 — is far from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2/3, but it copes with most tasks. The interface works mostly smoothly (although there are «jerks»), applications open quickly, and tabs in the browser do not die after three seconds of inactivity.

In the AnTuTu Benchmark, I hit the 400K mark the first time. In the CPU test, the tablet stays «cold» and hardly lags. But all this is in synthetic tests, and we emphasize this.

As for the games: Asphalt Legends Unite, EA SPORTS FC™ Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile run stably on medium graphics settings without significant FPS drops. But if you want to set the settings to high, get ready for heat and lag.

It’s nice that Acer didn’t install unnecessary software (three casual games and preinstalled Google Kids Space with YouTube Kids), but left it pure Android. This means not only fast operation, but also regular updates. And no ads!

Camera and sound

The tablet has four stereo speakers. The sound is loud and surrounded enough to watch movies or music without headphones.

Bass is lacking, but this is expected for a tablet. If you are a music lover and like deep low frequencies, it is better to connect headphones or external speakers. Fortunately, there is a necessary jack for this.

Don’t expect perfect selfies from the 5 MP front camera. It supports video recording in resolutions up to 1080p at 30 fps. It also has digital stabilization.

It’s perfect for studying or working in Meet or Zoom. It is positioned so that you hold the tablet in landscape orientation during a conversation.

The main 13-megapixel camera with F2.0 aperture also takes decent pictures, but only in good light. Evening photos are a quest with noise and blurred details.

Its maximum when recording video is — 2K, EIS is also available. There is no optical stabilization.

Autonomy

8000 mAh is a solid reserve for such a tablet. You can watch videos for about 13 hours, and with mixed use (browser, social networks, games), the charge lasts for 10-11 hours. There is support for fast charging with Power Delivery 2.0.

From 0% to 50%, the tablet charges in 1 hour and 14 minutes, up to 75% in 1 hour and 55 minutes, and fully to 100% at 3 hours and 29 minutes.

The PCMark test was set to 75% brightness: the gadget lasted 7 hours and 45 minutes.

The test lasted from 100% to 20% of the battery charge, which loaded the tablet with various real-time usage scenarios.

I would like to highlight one interesting feature of the tablet — it can work as a power bank and can also be charged from other devices if necessary.

It can charge your gadgets, but only small ones (smartwatches or wireless headphones, etc.). We didn’t manage to charge a phone or tablet, but on the contrary — yes! The Apple iPad Air 5 can charge the Acer Iconia Tab P11 without any problems via a USB-C cable.

Experience of use

After two weeks of use, the tablet has left a pleasant impression. My home tablet is — this «Apple’s» Air, and yes, it’s in a completely different league. However, I didn’t experience any culture shock after switching to Acer’s product.

For basic tasks, it’s a reasonable choice that won’t break the family budget. No matter how many epitaphs are written for the tablet market, as bedside/sofa gadgets, it’s a no-brainer.

An adult will find it easy to use the tablet with one hand, but a preschool child will find it difficult. Thanks to the included case, your child will be able to easily watch YouTube or solve puzzles in children’s apps with both hands. Or by placing it on a table.

Given the predominantly home use scenarios, the lack of biometric authentication options is not a critical disadvantage. The classic ones are present: a graphic key, password, and PIN.

But what should definitely be considered a disadvantage is the meditative charging process. Competitors have faster solutions.

Overall, the Acer Iconia Tab P11 left a positive impression as a budget tablet with a good price-performance ratio.

Price and competitors

The price of a tablet in Ukraine — UAH 9999. Acer Iconia Tab P11 faces serious competition in its segment.

Here are some alternatives:

  • Redmi Pad Pro (our review here) — better processor and smoother screen, which is perfectly calibrated. On the downside: a proprietary shell with ads and a number of apps.
  • Apple iPad (2022) — «apple» alternative to Android tablets. A basic but highly reliable gadget with a power reserve for years.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ — pleases with a nice price tag, but is inferior in screen quality and performance.
  • Lenovo Tab P11 (2nd Gen) — has a similar processor but a better display with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
  • Blackview Tab 16 — is another competitor that offers PC mode for work tasks, the ability to expand memory with a microSD card up to 1 TB.
