The ITC Book Club is back with you. Today, we are not talking about fiction, pictures or fantasy, but about serious literature that turned out to be unexpectedly interesting. I’m talking about the book «Amazon and the Future of E-Commerce» by Natalie Berg and Mia Knights, published by Vivat. This is a serious study of the world’s largest customer-oriented company that will be interesting not only to its fans, technology and e-commerce enthusiasts. This is a powerful cheat sheet for owners of large and small retail chains. From this book, they will learn many interesting things that help Amazon to be the best.

Judging by the existing features of Rozetka, «Nova Poshta», «Epicenter», Prom.ua, and other Ukrainian companies, they have long since adopted some of the Amazon features I learned about in this book. For example, pickup points with free delivery, clubs with bonuses, wish lists, personalized offers, etc. All of this and much more was first used by Amazon, and then others began to adopt it. So, how did it all start? How did it happen and why does it continue to work? You will find answers to all these and many other questions in the book «Amazon and the Future of E-Commerce».

Jeff Bezos saw a big future for his company Amazon, but it started out as an online bookstore and grew into one of the richest public companies in the world. This happened thanks to his unrelenting adherence to principles: constant innovation for the sake of customer relevance.

That’s why Amazon *is* the most serious competitor to other services and brands, but at the same time the most convenient and useful company for its customers. Amazon has become such a serious monopolist that in the US, Europe, and other parts of the world, its business has begun to be severely restricted and regulated. The Americans say that Amazon threatens their democracy, but they probably know better, because for me these are too loud statements.

However, they recognize the company’s most positive impact on the retail industry. No one has made such a boom in this sector, but Amazon has succeeded. Others followed, so customers in many countries where their service operates receive the goods they need in a day or an hour, can easily return them without paying for delivery, and have serious bonuses.

During their research, in which the authors try to understand the company’s secrets, they found that Amazon sells literally everything from diapers to appliances. At the same time, they provide cloud services, make movies and TV shows, produce hardware and gadgets, have a payment system, a tour operator, an airline, a club, and are engaged in the transportation of goods around the world, etc. It is also a chain of pharmacies, supermarkets, and clinics. The company also delivers food. And let’s not forget about the largest online bookstore.

Because of all the above, we can say that Amazon’s success is made up of the success of many of its divisions, and they only think about how to improve the customer experience and keep customers engaged.

Amazon — is not a retailer, but a technology company that is always improving through innovation. And the technologies involved don’t just raise customer expectations, they lead to revolutions in retail.

Technology in this sector is also driving completely new customer expectations, creating a more convenient and comfortable environment for customers. Amazon makes the most of this, especially artificial intelligence and voice interfaces.

The book «Amazon and the Future of E-Commerce» is written in an accessible and understandable way. However, this is not a classic nonfiction book with a story of heroes or a hero, with the development of events, etc.

The authors examine the company’s successes in detail and step by step, citing a lot of data, figures and tables, etc. So it’s not going to be a super interesting read, but it’s definitely not boring, it’s just filled with tons of information that the reader needs to process and let through.

That is why this book cannot be recommended as an entertaining read. It is a thorough study, albeit written in simple language, which must be studied to understand the competitor. It’s also a guide for businesses doing the same thing who want to compete with Amazon, or just be better locally.

As always, I like books from Vivat. This particular one has a high-quality hard cover with bright, eye-catching embossing, soft yellow paper, and easy-to-read font of an adequate size.
