The ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC graphics card was tested on a test bench with the following components:
ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC arrived for editorial review in a traditional box made in the classic AMD color scheme. The outer shell with the main technical information and the image of the video card is decorated in gray and black and red Radeon colors.
Here we can see the basic information about the key features, software, proprietary technologies, and cooling of the Asus video card. Carefully removing the outer shell, we see a laconic black box with a branded inscription «Asus. In Search Of Incredible». It is in it that the hero of this review is waiting for us, which is equipped only with a booklet and documentation.
There are no additional supports or clamps. Despite its dimensions and length of 31.2 cm, the card is not heavy – approximately 1120 grams. Its design is characterized by smooth angles Instead of sharp edges, smooth bevels are used whenever possible. It is on them that we can see the inscription «Radeon» and a black glossy print «Prime».
To power the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC uses three classic eight-pin connectors. This creates a somewhat sloppy look because of the whole bundle of cables that are constantly sticking out of the connectorIn this regard, solutions from NVIDIA with their proprietary 12-pin connection look much more solid. Therefore, for fans of accurate cable management, this fact will be somewhat jarring.
On the front side of the video card, there are designer white lines next to the fans, forming three incomplete improvised squares.
On the interface panel there is an inscription Stainless Steel 304 to hint that it is not afraid of any corrosion and will outlast all other components of the video card.
The matte plastic on the front panel contrasts somewhat with the glossy Prime inscription. But on the backplate, the manufacturer showed more design courage by implementing it in a glossy format. This is so that owners of PCs with horizontal placement of the video card can enjoy its mirror surface, which will better reflect the multi-colored rays from the system coolers, because the video card does not have its own backlight.
On the side of the video card, closer to the interface, we can see the mode switch. It takes on the P-mode and Q-mode positions.
The video card itself takes up 2.5 expansion slots. Нand the rear of the unit has an air intake vent for air intake. The cooling system includes fans with double ball bearings, which provide twice the service life of conventional fans
In general, the cooling system consists of ExcelTech coolers and a conventional radiator with heat pipes. If the temperature drops below 55 degrees Celsius, the fans stop (Zero Decibel technology). Their speed is as follows is selected depending on the temperature of the GPU, while the idle temperature of the memory can be much higher than 60 degrees. The surface of the heat spreader is additionally processed during the manufacturing process, so this allows for a slight reduction in the overall chip temperature according to the manufacturer’s claims.
Instead of thermal paste, a special thermal pad is used here. This is the so-called ThermalPad with phase change, which, according to the manufacturer, improves thermal conductivity and heat dissipation. We will check how successful this solution was in the section on power consumption and temperatures.

ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC is based on the fourth generation of RDNA 4 graphics architecture. It is this architecture that allows you to achieve adequate competitiveness with NVIDIA among mid-range graphics cards. At the declared MSRP — At $599, AMD is trying to offer better performance and a more favorable price point compared to the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti, which starts at $749.
The Navi 48 GPU boasts 64 computing units, the so-called Compute Units. They include 4,096 stream processors, 128 artificial intelligence accelerators, 64 RT accelerators, 256 texture units, and 128 rasterization units.
The ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC is equipped with 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 video memory and a 256-bit bus interface. The declared memory speed is 20 GB/s, which in total gives up to 640 GB/s of memory bandwidth. It’s also worth noting that AMD can manage memory out of order using Infinity Cache with a capacity of 64 MB. It can also partially offset the disadvantages of slower GDDR6.
In this regard, the competitor from NVIDIA looks much more interesting, using the new GDDR7 memory with higher bandwidth and a 256-bit bus.
The designation «OC» indicates that the card is factory overclocked. The GPU frequency exceeds the benchmark and totals 2460 MHz. Memory frequency — 2518 MHz and 3010 MHz during «boost»
But let’s get back to the Navi48 graphics processor, which has an area of 356.5 mm2. It contains 53.9 billion transistors. If you look and compare the total number of streaming processors with RTX 5070Ti, it’s striking that the competitor has twice as many – 8960 from NVIDIA versus 4096 from AMD
RDNA’s graphical architecture includes an advanced memory subsystem and a dual computing unit, a new generation of AI Accelerator for matrix computation and RT accelerator
Due to architectural and logical improvements, the performance gain in some cases was almost 100% compared to the previous architecture. It is worth noting that ray tracing and acceleration for neural networks are very sensitive to the graphics memory subsystem. That is why AMD has made quite significant changes in its management to speed up the delays in instruction execution.
Navi 48 also features a new generation media processor that improves H.264 encoding performance by 25%. The media processor is capable of performing simultaneous encoding and decoding, which significantly improves efficiency compared to the previous generation, and also reduces memory consumption for these processes
Unfortunately, Blender doesn’t yet work with the new video card, so we couldn’t test its performance in this format. Let’s put it down to the fact that ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC was released only recently and the developers will take this nuance into account as soon as possible
Rendering the test interior in Realistic Interior Lightning at a resolution of 6000×3900 pixels took us 5 minutes and 8 seconds. But the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti coped with this task 64% faster
Nevertheless, it is good to know that the program is able to work correctly with AMD acceleration, although not as fast as NVIDIA. If we recall the testing of the Intel Arc graphics card, it refused to run Realistic Interior Lightning at all. In the Geekbench 6 test in OpenCL mode, ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OCscored 115,852 points, and in Vulkan mode — 134,302 points.
NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti scored 241 thousand and 237 thousand points, respectively. The big difference in the number of streaming processors is evident, and there is nothing to compensate for it. In the Amuse ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC image generatorgenerated 10 images in high quality in 77 seconds, which is 26% slower than the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti.
Thus, NVIDIA is still predictably the leader in terms of working performance. But it’s worth noting that AMD has made a lot of effort to also be useful in a wider range of tasks, not just gaming

It’s time to find out what the RX 5070 XT can do in our favorite games. As always, we’ll start with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 in 4K resolution and epic graphics settings. At the same time, we turn off the frame generator and FSR. Playing in this mode is not very comfortable and there is a big delay. This is not surprising, because the frame counter shows us 43 fps. This is 17% lower than the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti.

If you turn on the frame generator and set TAA anti-aliasing, the frame delay becomes slightly lower, but the gameplay is still not comfortable. Therefore, the question arises, is it possible to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 comfortably on 4K settings? To do this, you need to set the graphics preset to high, enable XeSS at ultra-quality, and add the FSR frame generator to it. Then we will see 120 frames per second on our screens, and sometimes even more. I consider these settings to be the most comfortable for gaming.
It won’t be a big deal if we turn off the frame generator, and we’ll still have 65-70 frames per second with a comfortable and smooth game.

ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC looks like a famous adventurer — Indiana Jones, who, despite not having the most outstanding strength, is able to succeed where it is a priori impossible with the help of ingenuity and charisma.
If we try to engage in a fair fight with the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti in 4K with all neural enhancements turned off, but Path Tracing enabled, the overlay will show us 65 fps. This is 22% less than the competitor. If we turn to the FSR Quality scaling mode and the frame generator for help, then we get an excellent result — 180 fps.
Rendering in this mode takes place in QuadHD quality, and only then «upscale» up to 4K. Let’s not forget that the competitor — NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti has Multiframe Generation, which allows you to overclock your adventure game up to 220 frames per second.
At the time of gameplay, the video card consumed 320 watts, and the fan speed reached 2040 rpm. At the same time, the chip temperature reached 83 degrees Celsius, and the memory temperature was 88 ℃. This is at 60% of the maximum speed of the cooler.
The game consumed 12.5 gigabytes of video memory. What happens if you enable Path Tracing on RDNA4 in Medium mode and turn off all «neuroenhancements»? The result is deplorable – 24 frames per second. The NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti scored 39 fps in this mode.
If you set Path Tracing to the High preset, the video card will consume almost 15 gigabytes of video memory and 20 gigabytes of RAM. Therefore, it is better not to enable path tracing, because in this case you will see a miserable 11 frames per second on your screen. But the competitor from NVIDIA in this case showed 25 fps
We called in the frame generator and FSR supersampling to help, and the frame rate reached 44 fps. But it was still almost impossible to play at this rate because of the high latency and unpleasant artifacts.
Now let’s recall that in DLSS and Multiframe Generator X4 mode with the same settings, the NVIDIA RTX 5070Ti demonstrated up to 141 fps. No artifacts were observed. Draw your own conclusions
As it turned out, the artifacts were caused by a frame generator that is not very friendly with Path Tracing technology
Optimal settings for Indiana Jones and Great Circle: 4K, high graphics settings, FSR supersampling — Quality mode, frame generator enabled. Result — 110 frames per second.
In QuadHD resolution, you can already play with Path Tracing on the Medium preset without a framegenerator and with FSR Quality. The number of frames in this case will reach up to 52 fps.

But where the real surprise awaits us is in the game Cyberpunk 2077. At 4K resolution, ultra settings, with supersampling, frame generation, and RT disabled, the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC graphics cardoutperformed her opponent by 4 frames — NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti.
Cyberpunk 2077 at high Path Tracing settings in the Medium preset consumes 11 gigabytes of video memory and spins the fans up to 2250 rpm. In general, it’s worth noting that you won’t be able to play comfortably in 4K at ultra settings and with Path Tracing. In general, true Cyberpunk 2077 fans will definitely like the RX 5090XT.
Silent Hill 2 is like «pyramidal», clutched the throat of ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC with an iron gripwhich managed only 32 frames per second at 4K and epic settings without auxiliary supersampling. But the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti in this mode demonstrated 46 fps. Unreal Engine 5 is very demanding on chip performance in this case.

During the game, the GPU warms up to 88 degrees, and the fan whirrs at almost 2600 rpm. At the same time, the game uses 12 gigabytes of video memory. By enabling FSR, we get about 60 frames per second and the game becomes much more comfortable. In QuadHD, Silent Hill 2 accelerates to 105 fps with FSR at epic graphics settings. ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC overclocked the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti in this mode and almost came close to the RTX 5080 result! Unfortunately, it is very inconvenient to simultaneously enable AMD FSR 3.1 technology along with multiframe generation, because in this case there is an effect «jellies»although the frame counter shows us 97 fps Nevertheless, it is quite possible to play Silent Hill 2 at 4K with FSR Quality. In this case, we will see the foggy city at 55 fps, while enjoying the pleasant gameplay.

In the standard benchmark of Forza Horizon 5 at 4K resolution, extreme settings, and with «neuroenhancers» enabled, we get 143 fps, which is 10 frames more than the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti. Therefore, AMD wins this race.
If you’re not afraid of rats, then feel free to dive into the unfriendly Middle Ages in Plague Tale Requiem In 4K, it appears before us at 50 fps and demonstrates quite comfortable gameplay. With tracing enabled, we get less than 30 fps with drops of up to 18 fps when the camera is sharply rotated. Therefore, you won’t be able to play with 4K tracing.
If you are unable to extend without ray tracing, then set QuadHD, the Performance preset for supersampling, and general settings — Medium. Although the image here will be displayed at a frequency of more than 50 fps, there will still be sharp frequency drops on turns and it becomes quite uncomfortable to play.
You’ll have to forget about Ray Tracing at these settings. So let’s turn it off and play in QuadHD on ultra settings at 91 fps.
MSI Afterburner always refuses to work in Counter-Strike 2, but there are plenty of annoying cheaters who will do anything to prevent your team from winning a round fairly.
Nevertheless, with the help of the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC, I twice took the first place in the standings, albeit on the losing team. At the same time, the frame rate at FullHD and eSports settings reached 406 frames per second, and in 4K at very high settings – 126 fps.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 — is one of the few games that was one of the first to receive FSR 4 support. I didn’t notice a big difference compared to FSR 3 in 4K, nor did I notice a difference in the number of frames.
If you still have an adventurous spirit, you can try to play the legendary Crysis 3. Especially since the excellent remaster that came out a few years ago encourages you to do so. It is still a real challenge for all video cards. As it turned out, at very high settings in 4K with high tracing, the number of frames was kept at 34 fps.
The game does not support FSR, unlike DLSS. Therefore, we reduce the ray tracing settings to the average value, and here we get more or less playable 50-56 frames per second. Reducing the resolution to QuadHD with the High preset, we get about 50-55 fps, but it’s not comfortable to aim.
Therefore, by lowering the ray tracing settings to high quality, we can play at 80-85 FPS. I recommend playing Crysis 3 at these settings.
Recently, many players on the forums have been very enthusiastic about the news about the lack of support for 32-bit PhysX in the new 5000 series graphics cards from NVIDIA. What is the situation with AMD graphics cards? Of course, nothing, as it has always been. Therefore, in old games using this physics engine, the situation is classically deplorable, including on ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC.
In idle mode, the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC consumed approximately 11 watts, but during video playback, this figure reached 31 watts, which is 7 watts more than the RTX 5070 Ti. The maximum recorded power consumption reached about 321W, which is almost 50W higher than the RTX 5070 Ti from MSI in the Vanguard SoC Launcher version. Therefore, in terms of energy efficiency, NVIDIA graphics cards still have the advantage.
Power consumption was recorded in the BIOS performance mode. The GPU heated up to 88 degrees in games, as did the memory
I want to note right away that you shouldn’t focus on the GPU score, but on the Hotspot, which reached 93 degrees in the AIDA64 stability test.
In general, I wouldn’t call the cooling system particularly efficient, because such temperatures don’t look very attractive for a 3-way fan design. It is worth noting that the classic 8-pin power connectors heated up even more than the 12-pin connector from the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti.
The test bench consumed about 530 W at maximum gaming loads, so a 700-750 W power supply will be enough for you.
I haven’t used AMD graphics cards in home and work scenarios for a long time, because stability and confidence in the performance of applications are very important to me. Although when testing the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC I unwittingly caught wisps of the past and echoes of that rebellious spirit when I owned a Radeon series of video cards: 9600SE, R7 260, R9 280, RX 580, RX 5700XT Red Devil. This time I didn’t encounter any issues with drivers or software. Everything installed without any hassle and worked as smoothly as a Swiss watch.
To put a final point and answer the question of whether the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OCto compete with NVIDIA, it is worth calculating the cost of one FPS in hryvnia on the Ukrainian market. And for a fair comparison, let’s add an opponent in a similar performance — Asus GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Prime OC 16GB GDDR7. Taking into account all the values of the gaming tests, the cost per FPS of the ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC is 514 UAH, and the Asus GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Prime OC 16GB GDDR7 — 521 UAH. In fact, we get parity in gaming scenarios, taking into account the price.ASUS AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB Prime OC can be purchased from UAH 43,999. The good news is that, unlike NVIDIA graphics cards, they are available from the very first day in sufficient quantities. If you’re looking for a more efficient cooling system and a better look, then you might want to consider Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT AORUS ELITE. In addition, it has 2 HDMI ports, which has become a rarity.Economical gamers and owners of less powerful power supplies will like it PowerColor Radeon RX 9070 XT Reaper 16GBwhich, similarly to the reference models, is powered by two 8-pin connectors, which are quite sufficient for such power consumption. But fans of NVIDIA products and those who periodically use a video card in their workflows should take a closer look at Asus GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Prime OC 16GB GDDR7which costs from UAH 49,999. For an additional six thousand hryvnias, we get stability, speed in tasks with CUDA acceleration and local neural networks, as well as DLSS 4.
