Logitech G Litra Beam LX review: a smart lamp for bloggers

Published by Pavlo Chuikin

Recently, we wrote about the microphone Logitech G Yeti GX— a universal model for podcasts, streams, and YouTube channels. The hero of our today’s review, the Logitech G Litra Beam LX, will also help in the latter two cases. It’s a smart, compact LED light that will help those same bloggers or streamers look better on camera. But does it have any advantages over cheap softboxes from OLX, and is it really necessary? Let’s find out.

Packaging and equipment

The Logitech G Litra Beam LX comes in a rectangular case with the brand’s signature colors and a photo of the device itself.

Inside we see the lamp disassembled and another box.

The power cable was placed in the latter.

Design and ergonomics of the Logitech G Litra Beam LX

The Logitech G Litra Beam LX is a compact, collapsible lamp that looks like a regular desk lamp, but with an unusual shape of the top. The design is ascetic but modern. The dimensions of the model are 400×42×35.4 mm, and the weight of the whole set is 1.5 kg.

We have a round metal base on which a metal retractable stick with places for a well-thought-out cable management and a swivel head is attached, and a plastic LED lamp is already attached (horizontally or vertically) to it.

That is, depending on the mounting option, the lamp can be raised higher or lower, or placed at an angle, it can be installed horizontally above the monitor, or vertically and somewhere on the side. The options for use are endless, as are the places where it can be placed compactly.

The lamp itself is made of matte plastic and has two LED strips with frosted diffusers. At the end we can see a standard rack mount.

On the upper part, in the middle, there are the main physical buttons for controlling the lamp. In the middle, there is the button for connecting the lamp to a laptop or PC via Bluetooth.

On the bottom, also in the middle, there is a USB-C port for connecting to a PC or laptop if the wireless option above doesn’t suit you. Another place for mounting on a stand or any tripod, and a proprietary connector for connecting to the network.

Functions, connections, and software

Logitech G Litra Beam LX — is a lamp for lighting yourself or creating a background. One part of it can shine white (cold) or yellow (warm) light, or you can play with the temperature in the app, create your own scenarios, or use existing ones.

The main white and yellow part is designed to illuminate the face of a blogger or streamer. Its color temperature ranges from 2700K to 6500K. The maximum brightness is — 400 lumens. The second, rear, part has RGB backlighting, which can also be adjusted in the app or via the buttons on the body. This part is designed to create an atmospheric background in the video, when, for example, the lamp can be used not to illuminate the face, but as a background illumination behind.

Watch the video below for an analysis of the quality of face lighting and how it can look like.

And here’s another example of using this light in real life. For this conversation, I used the Logitech G Litra Beam LX.

The Logitech G Litra Beam LX must be connected to a laptop or PC, although it is strange why it cannot be connected simply via USB. It is not powerful enough to be powered by the mains. So we connect it via USB-C only if we want to control the lamp through the app and customize it. You can also do without wires in this case and connect it via Bluetooth.

Logitech G Litra Beam LX works with the proprietary G Hub app. It allows you to customize the front or back lighting, adjust the color temperature, and more. It is also possible to work with multiple Logitech devices and create usage scenarios.

For example, I also have a Logitech Stream Cam webcam, so I activated the lamp to turn on automatically when I turn on the camera. That is, I don’t have to turn it on separately or configure it in any other way. I did it once, checked the box in the right place, and it automatically activates when I turn on the camera. It’s very convenient if, for example, you often stream, shoot videos, or just communicate with colleagues via video. No matter what kind of lighting you have in your room, your face will always be well lit.

Experience using Logitech G Litra Beam LX

The Logitech G Litra Beam LX is a useful and undoubtedly narrowly focused device. But in my opinion, it has every chance of becoming a hit in its niche. The main target audience of the gadget is streamers and all those who film themselves at a desk near a computer or somewhere around the apartment, and there is no room for large or even medium softboxes.

This lamp literally transforms and bends as you need it, it can be placed behind the monitor, on the side or above it, and it looks very compact. It also gives a pleasant diffused light that can be customized in detail.

That second part with RGB backlighting is also suitable for the background, but it’s not worth buying this lamp for that reason. It’s more of a nice bonus than one of the main features, but it’s good that it’s there.

Also, Logitech G Litra Beam LX is suitable for all those who are just starting to run their YouTube channel, Instagram page, or TikTok. The lamp illuminates your face naturally and, most importantly, evenly, and can be carried anywhere. It’s definitely better than trendy ring lamps, which illuminate your face much worse, reflect in your eyes, and are designed for filming certain types of content. However, they are not suitable for many types of lighting, and this lamp is.

Yes, you’ll have to pay more for it, but there are ring lamps for 5, 7, and 10+ thousand hryvnias. But there are cheaper ones, so the price is definitely not a plus for Logitech G Litra Beam LX.

Among the disadvantages, I’d also like to highlight the presence of only a power outlet. Perhaps I’m missing something, but it seems to me that the available 13.5W power can definitely be powered via USB from the same PC, laptop, or power bank. I don’t understand why they did it this way and not in a simpler way. But this negatively affects the mobility of the user with the lamp. Yes, there are sockets in many places, but not all of them are located where they have a good location. Of course, I’m not talking about shooting at a computer desk.

Everything else is great. It’s compact, lightweight, flexible in setup and installation, easy to use, and versatile.

Prices and competitors

Logitech G Litra Beam LX is on sale for 6999 UAH. Someone will definitely find it expensive, and they will be right. However, there are few competitors and it will usually be of a similar price. Of course, if you need similar features and functionality.

The main competitors are small LED panels such as Elgato Key Lightbut the price tag is about the same, and sometimes even higher. There are also various more affordable options for similar panels, but the functionality is much less, as well as the quality. However, the main thing is different. Such panels, especially for beginners, give a very large overlight in the frame, which does not significantly improve, but rather spoils the picture.

As an option, we can recommend the simplest softboxes for 1000 hryvnias from OLX. But they are not adjustable in terms of brightness, except by changing the power of the lamps, and they are also large, so they take up a lot of space and will not fit behind a computer desk, or you will have to move it, or put it at a different angle, play with it, etc.
