At the beginning of spring, Logitech officially presented several new products in Ukraine. Among them was the Signature Slim K950 wireless keyboard. We’ve been testing the device for several weeks, have written a lot of texts, and are now ready to draw conclusions. In the review below, we share our impressions of the device, its functionality, and other important points.

Packaging and contents of Logitech Signature Slim K950

Logitech Signature Slim K950 comes in a flat rectangular box in white and light green colors. Inside we have the keyboard itself with two AAA batteries, a Logi Bolt USB dongle, and documentation.

Design, ergonomics and functionality

The Logitech Signature Slim K950 is a full-size slim membrane keyboard. It has a low key travel and a matte plastic body. It shows almost no signs of use except for dust.

Stylistically, it’s a typical model from the company with rounded corners if you’re familiar with their solutions for work and office. It also reminds me of the MX Keys series of keyboards, because I use that model.

The keyboard has dimensions of 23.1×134.8×433.8 mm and weighs 685 grams.

The new product has a built-in ergonomic tilt, which is provided by a protruding part at the bottom of the case. This is where the «cache for a pair of AAA batteries is located. You can also store the bundled USB receiver here. On the sides, we see retractable legs with rubber treads that increase the keyboard height from the standard 19 mm to 23 mm. There are also two small and three large feet on the bottom. They prevent the model from sliding on the table.

There is a button to turn the keyboard off/on on the inside.

On the top panel, in addition to the keys themselves, we see an oblong corrugated insert with the inscription logi in the center and a charge level indicator on the right side.

The Logitech Signature Slim K950 has a familiar layout (ISO). Here, the left Shift is short, and the right is long. We also have a two-line Enter. The F1 key is located between keys 1 and 2. All keys F1-F12 are multimedia keys and activate various functions and features. An additional key in this row is the volume up button on the right.

Logitech Signature Slim K950 has both Ukrainian and English layouts. Also, the keys are labeled for both Windows users and Apple fans. There is no backlight.

Connection, control, and software

Logitech Signature Slim K950 can connect to devices via Bluetooth or the included USB Logi Bolt. The keyboard is compatible with Chrome OS, Linux, macOS, Microsoft Windows, Android, iPadOS, and iOS. The device can connect to three different devices at the same time and quickly switch between them using special keys.

Like many Logitech devices, the Logitech Signature Slim K950 works with the company’s proprietary Logi Options+ utility. This is a convenient, modern program with an austere design.

Here you can update the keyboard programmatically, check the remaining battery, reassign or disable function keys (it is possible to create a separate set for each of the many supported programs), set up auto-connection to three different devices, and more.

Autonomous operation

Logitech Signature Slim K950 is powered by two AAA batteries. The declared battery life is 36 months. That is, the manufacturer says that in the best-case scenario, the keyboard will work for three years.

Of course, I was unable to verify this statement during several weeks of testing, so it will be tested in practice by real customers. I’d just like to note that this parameter strongly depends on the battery manufacturer you choose, as well as the time you use it during the day.

Logitech Signature Slim K950 user experience

As mentioned above, Logitech Signature Slim K950 is very similar to Logitech MX Keys. And this is a positive similarity. The keys here are flat, easy to press and have a low travel, so typing is comfortable and pleasant. Perhaps the MX Keys have a slightly softer kick, but the difference is not significant.

Logitech Signature Slim K950 is designed for typing and work. The keyboard is pleasant to work on, it has a small tilt angle that can be increased. The device is thin, so you don’t really need a wrist rest. But if you work a lot, it’s probably better to have one regardless of the model of your existing keyboard.

The Signature Slim K950 is quiet because the membrane keys produce almost no noise, so you can use it both at home with others and in the office. And your typing will not disturb anyone.

The Logitech Signature Slim K950 does not have a backlight, which will definitely be a disadvantage for some. I type blindly, so I don’t really care if there is a backlight. But sometimes even I, when I’m sitting in the evening or at night, spy on some liquid button and here the backlight would be useful. But if you work during the day, you won’t even notice the presence or absence of backlighting.

In general, the removal of this function is understandable because it significantly increases battery life. But I also don’t understand the battery-powered models. Although the battery life is good, there are additional limitations, such as removing the backlight and the need to buy batteries, despite claims of incredible battery life.

However, others will say that they’d rather buy batteries twice than charge a battery-powered keyboard every few months or even weeks. And they’re right, too, because it’s their desire and their choice.

You can play games on this model, but, of course, this is not a gaming keyboard. If you rarely play games, then Logitech Signature Slim K950 will be fine for shooters, racing action games, and strategy games. Of course, there will be no tactile feedback and ultra-fast keystrokes like in gaming models, but in general, it copes with this task adequately, which is helped by the low-key travel.

Impressions of the Logitech Signature Slim K950 are as pleasant as possible, and the lack of backlighting does not make this model significantly worse. The main thing is that typing is super comfortable, and for me, as a person who writes a lot of texts, this is the most important thing. So if you are also looking for a model for work, then pay attention to this new product.

Price and competitors

Logitech Signature Slim K950 is sold at a price of UAH 3999. In my opinion, this is a good price. Of course, there are cheaper models, but in the segment where the new product is available, this is an average price tag. However, I understand that for some people the price will be too high.

There are different models among the competitors. All of them are full-size, but there are nuances. Pay attention to another model from the Signature — series Logitech Signature K650. It has a built-in kickstand and is also more affordable. Also worth noting Logitech MX Keys S. I also advise you to pay attention to the mechanical model Logitech MX Mechanical.

For those who like Apple technology, there is a branded, albeit much more expensive Apple Magic Keyboard. If you need something more affordable, but similar, there is Dell KB-500.
