When twin brothers Moke and Jady Munger were 15, their mother Kat, along with her boyfriend and stolen diamonds, literally disappeared from the boys’ lives. Perhaps this was the reason why both of them followed in the footsteps of their clumsy mom and became thieves. But not very skillful ones because during their «last case» something clearly went wrong, so Jade ends up in prison, and Moke starts a family, trying to start from scratch and put an end to his criminal past forever.
But these dreams were not to be because five years later, Jady is released from prison by ultrasound and immediately offers Moke a simple job. He refuses, of course, but circumstances force him to agree. But neither of them even suspected that their unplanned reunion in the criminal field would lead to incredible adventures with unpredictable consequences.
Here, too, Barbakow and screenwriters Macon Blair and Etan Coen (not to be confused with one of the brothers who gave us «Dude» Lebowski) build their narrative on secondary material called «Such Different Twins». At the very least, this world already has «Twins» with Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
Something tells us that Barbakow is unlikely to succeed with his debut film, and it’s not even a matter of secondary importance. The problem is that the decent actors assembled on the set have essentially nothing to play. Nor does this movie have enough sparkling humor to make you laugh out loud all the time.
A lack of good jokes and uninteresting characters that exist in a lackluster plot are basically the only way to describe what is happening on the screen.
Josh Brolin here, he is confined to the role of a naive and somewhat clumsy big guy who is forced to walk around with a puzzled expression and wonder at the antics of his silly relatives. Dinklage seems to have a little more room for acting maneuvers, but he doesn’t have much room to unfold either. Glenn Close, as the incorrigible crook, is experienced but not particularly memorable. Veteran Michael Emmett Walsh is limited to a couple of lines; this was the 88-year-old actor’s last movie role.
In general, it turned out to be weak, mediocre, and uninspired.
«Brothers» — is another average streaming novelty, with a cast of good actors who have nothing to play. The plot itself turned out to be bland, with a catastrophic lack of humor and really fun adventures. But there is hope that even though Samuel was lucky, the story is already silent about this fact.
