The POCO brand has long been known for its smartphones for mobile gamers, where attention is focused on hardware. At the same time, these devices cost relatively little money, but the manufacturer often overlooks other important components. For example, we have already reviewed POCO X6 Pro. The brand new POCO X7 Pro is no exception, but the smartphone has received several improvements over its predecessor. And here the question arises: will this device help to go beyond «entertainment device»? You will find out all this and much more in the review below.

POCO X7 Pro is sold in a black box of the standard size for smartphones. We can also see yellow lettering and letters, which together create the brand colors.
In the box we find the phone itself with a film stuck to the screen, a USB-C cable and an opaque silicone case, as well as documentation and a paper clip to open the SIM card slot. There is no power supply in the box.
POCO X7 Pro does not look like its predecessor at all. Except for the glossy plastic body. And this, in my opinion, is not cool at all because such a material collects dust rapidly, it catches all fingerprints, and scratches will definitely be visible on it. But still, this is probably not a problem because most people will immediately put on at least a complete case that will cover it all. Or buy another one.
The brand new POCO X7 Pro has a modern, neat design with flat edges and rounded corners. In our case, it’s black, but there are also green and yellow-black variants.
On the front panel we see rather thin bezels and a small hole for the front camera.
On the back there is a dual main camera with a flash with a compact design in circles that do not protrude much from the body. We also see the POCO inscription and a visual division of the back cover into two unequal parts.
On the right side we see the screen lock button and volume keys. There is nothing on the left. On the top end there is a speaker and an infrared port, and on the bottom there is a second speaker, a microphone, a USB-C port and a SIM card slot (two nano-SIMs).
Despite its glossy body, POCO X7 Pro feels firm and secure in the palm of your hand. There is no feeling that it is about to slip out, as sometimes happens with some other models with a glossy body or with rounded screens. Everything is fine with this. And in general, the smartphone is relatively small (160.75×75.24×8.29 mm) and light (195 grams).
The device looks cool in the case. I like it. Especially since it comes with the kit. It’s also good that it’s not a transparent case that tends to turn yellow after a short period of time. Here we have a dark gray version, which people will probably use right away and not buy something else. At least that’s what I would do.
I would also like to note the full IP68 water and dust protection. This means that the smartphone will survive a fall into the water, but I still don’t recommend doing it on purpose because as always in these cases, the warranty is not valid. So just keep this in mind and know.
POCO X7 Pro is equipped with a 6.67-inch OLED matrix with a resolution of 2712×1220 pixels. It has a 12-bit color depth and support for Dolby Vision extended dynamic range. The pixel density is 446 ppi. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
The maximum screen brightness is 1400 nits. It is claimed to be 3200 nits when playing HDR content, which also means that the display supports this feature. We did not forget about the increased refresh rate to 120 Hz. In the settings, you can manually select 60 or 120 Hz or leave this parameter in automatic mode.
In the settings, you can adjust the saturation and color temperature. And there are additional improvements to the picture with the help of AI: ultra-high resolution, HDR improvements with AI, and MEMC technology (improving smoothness by generating additional frames). But the new model has removed the Always-On-Display function. Some people will definitely not like it, but I never use it.
The display has a fingerprint scanner. It is conveniently located for me. It works quickly, but almost never responds to wet fingers. In general, it’s just an adequate modern fingerprint sensor.
I liked the screen of the new smartphone as much as its predecessor. It’s bright, and most importantly, it has nice realistic colors. At least if you choose the color scheme «Standart PRO». I didn’t like the other settings here.
The brightness of POCO X7 Pro’s display is more than enough to use the smartphone outdoors in direct sunlight without any problems. Indoors, I rarely used more than 60-70%. I advise you to set the brightness to auto because this way the screen has more nits. And, of course, there is no question of any dullness of the picture if you look at the screen from angles.
POCO X7 Pro has stereo sound and two full-fledged speakers on the bottom and top edges. The sound is loud, even rich, and there is no buzzing at high volume. There is also support for Dolby Atmos, Xiaomi Sound and a variety of sound presets. Not to forget the built-in equalizer.
I would like to note the immersive sound function, which was also in the previous model. It adds an immersive effect and a sense of space, which is similar to surround sound. Try it in videos, movies, or TV shows, but it’s definitely not for music.
But there’s no bass, which is usual for these tiny speakers. That is, in general, the sound of this model can be characterized as normal-adequate.
I can say the same about the vibration response. The vibration motor here is definitely not the cheapest, but, of course, it is far from the flagship level. Nevertheless, it copes with its task and generally feels pleasant.
I should also note that there is no 3.5 mm audio jack on the case, which is often the case even in modern gaming models. Therefore, there is only Bluetooth, or nothing.
The POCO X7 Pro has a 50-megapixel Sony LTY-600 (IMX882) main sensor with an f/1.5 aperture lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). The second camera is an ultra-wide-angle 8-megapixel (f/2.2) camera without autofocus. The front module here has a resolution of 20 megapixels (f/2.2).
The previous POCO X6 Pro had good cameras, but they were worse than those of its competitors for the same money. The new smartphone has improved overall, but you still need to remember that this device is designed primarily for mobile gamers, and everything else is just fine.
The main camera takes quite detailed pictures in good light, they are saturated and even have a wide dynamic range. You can also zoom in, but it’s better not to do it at more than 2X. Because then the quality is significantly lost.
Night photos are classic for this segment and for phones in general: instead of a real night, «brains» try to make it look like day and they succeed. There is noise, but we also see detail and rich colors. Of course, as for the «Night» mode.
I advise using the ultra-wide-angle module only during the day because it’s not very good. If you really need to take a photo with a wide angle, then please do. But it is better to use the main module because it is the only adequate one here.
The main camera can shoot 4K video at 60 fps. The ultra-wide-angle and front cameras are limited to 1080p at 30 fps. You can only switch between cameras when you select 1080p resolution during filming.
As for the photos from the front camera, I didn’t like them. In the previous model, they were not very good either, but there the camera was very much beautifying my face. And in POCO X7 Pro, it somehow shows it strangely. It’s too sharp, and it’s also kind of wide-angle because my face looks strange on it.
You can also see that in portrait mode, the bokeh software does a poor job when there are a lot of things in the background. And when there are almost no objects, it blurs more or less normally, without artifacts.
POCO X7 Pro is powered by the new 8-core MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chip. It has a steel evaporation chamber that cools the processor. The chip itself is made on a 4-nm process, it has eight Cortex-A725 cores. Mali-G720 MC7 is responsible for graphics.
Depending on the version, the smartphone can have 8/12 GB of LPDDR5X and 256/512 GB of UFS 4.0 RAM and ROM. You cannot install a microSD memory card. The modules also include 5G (SA/NSA), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS (L1 + L2), NFC, USB Type-C (USB 2.0), and an IR port.
All benchmarks and other similar tests can be found below. The numbers speak for themselves, but I’ll say that this chip is really cool and cool, so it’s a top in the mid-range category.
The smartphone easily runs any modern popular and heavy game at high-maximum graphics settings with adequate fps. For example, Genshin Impact, COD Warzone, PUBG Mobile, and other similar projects deliver 50-60 frames per second. It was very rare to see 40-45 fps. That is, we have a great picture and the game does not slow down. I’m not even talking about other less demanding projects like Call of Duty Mobile, Wild Rift, etc. because everything is still much better there.
POCO X7 Pro runs on Android 15 with the proprietary HyperOS 2 add-on. Three years of Android updates and four years of updates with security updates are announced. Not bad, in my opinion. The shell itself is most reminiscent of Xiaomi and Redmi with many ads. I opened the Chrome browser several times, logged into my account, did tests and downloaded benchmarks. Within half an hour I was bombarded with ads through the browser in the form of aggressive notifications, videos, and ads for some store. Of course, all this can be «nailed down» and removed, but it requires some knowledge, time, and effort.
The smartphone has artificial intelligence functions that are mainly involved in photo editing. However, to fully work with AI on the phone, you will need to download three apps and log in to your Xiaomi account. Without the latter, you can’t do anything at all.
Artificial intelligence conditionally improves photos in general, removes «noise» and various «skin imperfections», can change the sky in the background, and so on. In other words, working with AI is more of a modern advertising ploy than a real benefit.
Can an ordinary person use all this? Of course, yes. You might even find it useful, but even the basic «Camera» program has enough filters, tools, and enhancements to edit photos without using AI.
POCO X7 Pro smartphone has a 6000 mAh battery. It supports 90W fast charging, but I remind you that there is no power supply, at least in our version. So it will depend on the power supply you use. There is no wireless charging either.
If you have a 90W power supply, then charging from 0 to 40% takes 10 minutes, and the device is fully charged in 40 minutes.
The available battery is an adequate minimum for gaming smartphones. It easily lasts for a day and a day and a half at most if you don’t play. In my opinion, this is more than an adequate result. In PC Mark tests, the smartphone showed 13 hours to 48 hours and this is a nice result for autonomy.
I also liked the available standby mode, which «consumes» minimal power. I had the phone for a while and left it on for two days because I switched to another job and another device. And when I came back, it turned out that the battery was only 20% down. Notifications were coming, Wi-Fi was working, but Bluetooth was not. But even so, such a slow discharge is good.
Speaking of the battery and mobile gaming, in an hour of playing PUBG Mobile, the battery loses 20%, and in Genshin Impact and COD Warzone, it will be all 40-45%.
I liked POCO X7 Pro better than its predecessor a year ago. And even though POCO X6 Pro received a good rating and was a top. If you want a smartphone for gaming not for all the money in the world, then its successor managed to surpass this result slightly, although some things were removed.
The POCO X7 Pro has a more powerful chip, a larger battery, and it now has slightly better cameras. They are still not enough to compete with the cameras of other smartphones in this price category, but we can see progress.
I also liked the updated design better, but that’s always a matter of taste. However, it’s not cool that we still have solid plastic, and even glossy. The bundled case saves the day, and it’s good that it’s not transparent, and the device itself looks decent in the case.
I liked the screen and the sound. The latter is just fine and good. But someone will definitely not like the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack, which is often left in gaming smartphones. I’m fine without it.
Of course, the processor is a real eye-opener because it’s cool and mighty, which is exactly what mobile gamers need. The screen is also great, it has incredible brightness, but there is no LTPO technology, which is why the refresh rate is only 60 or 120 Hz. But it’s more than enough for gaming and viewing content and even more.
It’s also cool that the smartphone has IP68 protection, which is quite rare in this price category because even some Chinese flagships are not protected by this standard.
Price forPOCO X7 Pro starts from 13,560 UAH, but in large official networks the price tag of the smartphone is from UAH 15,999 for the 8/256 GB version. In my opinion, the price is more than adequate, especially for such a processor and for fans of mobile gaming. But for everyone else, there is a very large selection in this price category.
There is last year’s Poco X6 Pro with a price tag of UAH 11,250, as well Poco F6 (price from UAH 14,500), and Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus (price from UAH 13,980). However, the latter will be of more interest to fans of universal devices. As well as the following competitors: OnePlus Ace 3V, which costs from UAH 14,400, Nothing Phone 2a Plus (price from UAH 14,799), Motorola Edge 50 Neo with a price tag of UAH 11,900, Samsung Galaxy A55 (price from UAH 13,175), Google Pixel 8a (price from UAH 16,180) and Realme GT Neo6 with a price starting at UAH 14,500.
