Everything indicates that the world has experienced a global catastrophe. While transporting a shipment of robotic assistants from Universal Dynamics, a storm hits and the cargo ship crashes on a desert island. Of all the machines on the ship, only ROZZUM Unit 7134, or simply Roz, which communicates in a female voice, manages to survive. The problem is that the only people she meets along the way are all kinds of animals, from gophers to a ferocious bear. And each of her attempts to improve the lives of the wild inhabitants of the forest leads to small disasters.

After a not-so-pleasant encounter with a grizzly, an accident occurs, leaving Roz with the responsibility for a newly hatched gosling. Having met Fink the fox, who had originally planned to eat the chick but was forced to abandon his plan, Roz takes over the care of the baby. But she has no idea how difficult this task will be because the chick needs to be taught to swim, and most importantly — to fly, and it must be done in time for the autumn migration. Chris Sanders, who has worked on such hits as «Wild Robot», «Lilo and Stitch», «How to Train Your Dragon» and «The Croods», has worked on «The Wild Robot», and with this new project, the director and screenwriter once again confirms his reputation as an extremely talented, outstanding animator. Watching his new animated film — is not only a pure pleasure for viewers of all ages, but also a source of exceptionally warm, positive emotions that we all lack today.

In general, projects such as «The Wild Robot» are worth their weight in gold today. They are able to literally charge us with positive energy and give us the emotions we need. While theaters and streaming services are saturated with low-budget second-rate horror and other cinematic garbage, such cartoons literally heal the soul. Given our current realities, this factor is perhaps the most important in terms of the functions performed by cinema.

In the story, there is a place for both the beaver and the good; in fact, it is a celebration of goodness, and it is absolutely impossible to remain indifferent. Yes, the story itself doesn’t shine with extreme originality or fundamentally fresh ideas, but it takes the best of the previous developments and makes them such a harmonious and correct combination that you can only relax and enjoy it.From the very beginning, when the robot first sets foot on the island and earns a reputation as a «monster» that everyone is terrified of, there is an allusion to humanity’s fear of new technologies, in particular artificial intelligence. Later on, the mini-plot about the touching friendship between the lonely WALL-E and the cockroach will be twisted to the maximum. Instead of an insect that can supposedly survive a nuclear strike, it will be a cunning but charismatic fox, like the one in «Zootropolis».».

The unlikely company of outsiders, consisting of a cub and a predator who initially planned to devour it, refers to the animation masterpiece of the past — «Ice Age». It’s also worth mentioning «The Ugly Duckling», whose influence is also felt with the naked eye. At some point, a car will appear in the frame directly from «The Matrix», and the robot will not only realize why we «feel love for our loved ones, but will eventually feel it himself. This, in fact, will prompt reflection on the complexities of parenthood and, in particular, motherhood, a theme that runs like a thin red thread through the plot. Except for the heavy rain of raccoons, Sanders has essentially baptized everything we’ve seen, or at least heard about, before. But he has done it so well and harmoniously that there is no desire to pay attention to any manifestations of secondary nature or script roughness. At the same time, the fascinating and touching story is supported by witty humor and stylish, old-fashioned hand-drawn animation that is pleasant to the eye.

«The Wild Robot» — is that unforgettable island of joy, kindness, and escapism that is not only worth visiting, but vital to visit, preferably with the whole family. Someone may even need handkerchiefs, because an emotional surge is guaranteed. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best films of this year, which was not very fruitful for outstanding cinema.
