SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 review: a robot vacuum cleaner that does it all

Опубликовал

Modern robotic vacuum cleaners can not only vacuum but also clean floors. However, manufacturers go further, limiting user intervention to a minimum. For example, the brand new SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 has not one, but two stations that automatically remove debris, fill and change the water for floor cleaning. But, as always, there are some nuances, especially with the second station. Therefore, if you like the model and are eager to buy it, or at least consider such an opportunity, then read the review first, and then see for yourself.

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 comes in a large cardboard box. Inside are smaller boxes containing the vacuum cleaner itself, two docking stations, and a variety of accessories, including a replacement brush, extra trash bags, and even two sets of wet cleaning detergents.

Design and ergonomics of the SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 has a plastic body with matte and glossy parts. Its style is modern and ascetic.

On the front we see cameras and various sensors.

On the top, there is a light bar and three physical control buttons. You can also open the lid here, and underneath it, there is a button to turn the vacuum cleaner off/on, a removable 310 ml container for waste, and a brush.

There are various holes and inscriptions on the sides of the vacuum cleaner. There is also a user-friendly removable part on the right side. It allows you to easily access the roller for wet cleaning.

Behind us we see another removable container — this time for water.

At the bottom, there is a removable circular brush for collecting debris, a rubber cleaning brush, various sensors, three wheels, and a roller for wet cleaning.

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 is a large vacuum cleaner. Its dimensions are 365 by 365 mm and its height is 115 mm. To get a sense of its size, take a look at my Eufy home vacuum cleaner. The SwitchBot S10 looks like a giant next to it because it is.

The docking station is relatively compact and plugs into the mains. It is made of white matte plastic and has a four-liter capacity for a garbage bag. On the bottom of the station, we see two large holes, sensors, and sensors. Garbage is sucked in through the holes and the roller is dried after wet cleaning.

The other station is even smaller, but does not require power. It has a built-in battery that is recharged by the vacuum cleaner’s battery. It is connected to the sewer or pipes near the sink, washing machine, or dishwasher. On the body, we see various sensors and sensors, as well as holes for draining dirty water and collecting clean water. There is also a filter and a place to fill in the washing liquid.

Features and capabilities

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 has a suction power of 6500 Pa. The minimum noise level is 62 dB and the maximum noise level is — 69 dB.

The vacuum cleaner can not only clean but also mop the floor. It also creates a detailed floor plan with the arrangement of furniture and other items to avoid running into them while cleaning. It is assisted by built-in LIDAR and AI, as well as an obstacle avoidance system.

The peculiarity of this model is that it requires minimal user involvement, as two docking stations can automatically clean the bin from debris and the tank from dirty water, and then fill it with clean water. Also, the main charging station automatically dries the cleaning roller while the vacuum cleaner is charging.

It is stated that the garbage bag on the docking station needs to be replaced every 70 days. That is, intervention in the process is required only once every two and a half months. It is also necessary to check the filters at another water station occasionally.

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 has different cleaning modes. These include vacuuming and mopping or vacuuming. In addition, in each of the modes, you can select the suction power and the level of water addition during floor cleaning.

The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a proprietary Roller mop. It automatically rises by 7 mm when the vacuum cleaner passes over the carpet. This means that the carpet does not get wet. The suction power is also increased on carpeted surfaces to better clean the pile. During washing, clean water is supplied to the mop and dirty water is removed. The mop also cleans itself 300 times per minute during operation.

Management and application

The SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 is controlled by three physical buttons on the body (start, send back to the charging station, change cleaning mode) or via the SwitchBot app.

The program is modern and powerful, but at the same time has a clear and easy-to-use interface. It has many functions for interacting with the vacuum cleaner. For example, lidar mapping, which means that the first time you clean your apartment or house, the vacuum literally creates a map of your apartment or house. Then you can add virtual no-go zones where it is not allowed, as well as clean only a specific room or rooms.

The main screen of the SwitchBot app displays the active map, has different modes of operation, manual cleaning or drying of the mop, and dust removal using the automatic emptying and drying station.

Here you can also control the robot vacuum with your hands, update the vacuum cleaner software, activate the «Do Not Disturb» mode, mute/unmute the sound, check the battery level, set up notifications. You can also set the cleaning schedule and the number of cleanings at a time, and more.

Autonomous operation

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery. Depending on the cleaning mode, the battery life ranges from 140 to 60 minutes. In the first case, it is the simplest cleaning at a light suction level. In the latter, it is — washing plus «sweeping» at a powerful level.

If you have a small apartment, for example, like mine (42.5 square meters), then one charge will be enough for two cleaning sessions. If it’s a house or just a large apartment in a new building, you may need to go to a charging station to fully clean the vacuum cleaner. We’ll talk about the nuances and small apartments in the next section. Be sure to read it.

Experience using SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10

I definitely liked the SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10, but it’s not suitable for my apartment because of its size. This is a large vacuum cleaner and it is much larger than my home model. On an area of 42.5 meters, in a «Khrushchev» apartment, it was very difficult for it to turn around and clean because the rooms are small, there is little space, furniture, things, etc.

Take a closer look at this model if you have a larger apartment, house, etc. For example, it can be the same «Khrushchev», but with minimal furniture and a larger area. But still, it is better to consider this model for houses and large apartments in new buildings with a lot of space, wide passages, studio kitchens, etc. This model is for such options.

Another nuance is the second water charging station. It’s probably not difficult to connect it, there are various gadgets in the box, but even if you can’t, any plumber can do it in 10 minutes without any problems. The joke here is different. I couldn’t connect this thing because there was simply no room for a station near my sink and washing machine. More precisely, there was a place in the bathroom, near the washing machine, but I have a high threshold there that a vacuum cleaner cannot overcome, so putting the station there is not an option.

So be sure to pay attention to this before you buy. You should have a place for the station near the washing machine or near the sink, or somewhere where there are pipes. And this room should be open so that the vacuum cleaner can drive in without any obstacles, pour out the dirty water, fill it with new water, and go charge itself.

In some reviews from my Western colleagues, I read that if you cannot connect a water station, then floor cleaning becomes unavailable. I would like to point out that this is not true. Firstly, there are additional water tanks that can be purchased and put on the station, and then it does not need to be connected to the water supply. You can also simply pull out the water tank behind, fill it with water and detergent, put it back in, and start cleaning.

Yes, after that, dirty water will remain in the tank, so after each such cleaning, you will need to change the water in the vacuum cleaner by hand, and they position it as a super-automatic one. This really adds a lot of work to the user, but the main thing is that the floor cleaner is available even without a station. It is better to find a place for it and connect it to the sewer. Then you will feel the full automation that the developers intended.

I would also like to note that dust and other traces of use are less visible on the white body than on the black one, so although the white color seems illogical for such solutions, it is actually more practical.

I can’t help but note the excellent work of LIDAR and built-in cameras. The vacuum cleaner really draws a map of the room and the things in it and does not suck in or drive around even small objects, such as toys, etc. However, it still sometimes gets caught on cables, but much less than my vacuum cleaner.

The vacuum cleaner collects debris perfectly, and most importantly, it does not get stuck on the brush because it is rubber. SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 also cleans the floor perfectly, and most importantly, it actually cleans, not like some other models that just smear water around the room. The roller spins powerfully, so after cleaning, the tiles on my floor literally shone. Very high-quality level.

At the same time, the vacuum cleaner is quite noisy because the suction power is quite large. Yes, they are not all quiet, but this one is a level louder, so it is better to clean when you are not at home, for example because when it does this, it even mutes the TV in the room.

The vacuum cleaner really doesn’t get the carpet wet, but my carpet is small and quite thin. I don’t know how it will be with a shaggy version.

Price and competitors

SwitchBot Floor Cleaning Robot S10 is sold at a price of UAH 39,999. It’s definitely not cheap, but among competitors with full-fledged car cleaning stations, this is a more or less adequate price tag.

Before concluding, I have traditionally compiled a list of models that, in my opinion, can compete with the hero of the review. To begin with, pay attention to another SwitchBot model called Mini Robot Vacuum K10+. With a price tag of 17,000 UAH, it’s a more affordable option if you like the manufacturer but need something simpler with a docking station.

There are also Dreame L10s Ultra and Dreame L10s Pro Ultra, Dreame X40 Ultra, Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X10+, as well as the popular Roborock Q8 Max+. Don’t forget about Roborock S8 Pro Ultra.
