I’ve always liked Lenovo’s bold approach to concept devices. In my report from CES, I described the idea of a modular laptop, and at the recent IFA 2024 in Berlin, the company showed another fun concept called Auto Twist. This is a laptop with a hinged screen that moves with the user and is controlled by voice commands.
A few weeks ago, I bought an Insta360 Link webcam for calls, and it works on a similar principle. You can set the device to track your head movements and follow you around. This is very convenient for calls and video recording. You don’t have to worry about keeping your face in the center of the frame and your eyes looking at the camera, not down.
Lenovo went even further and did the same thing, only with a laptop! Its screen automatically adjusts to the user and understands such voice commands as «close laptop», «laptop mode», «tablet mode», and others. The laptop can also close automatically when you step away from it.
Here’s a video of how it works. At one point, the laptop lost my face because I accidentally closed it with my phone. After I removed the smartphone, everything worked again.
Here’s a demonstration of how voice commands work and how to rotate the screen. The tracking is done using a webcam, and the image is processed using artificial intelligence. There is nothing much to describe, so watch the video.
Otherwise, it’s a regular ThinkPad from Lenovo.
The company does not say whether the laptop will ever appear on the market and how much it will cost, if so, the company does not say. It is likely that it will remain at the level of a fun concept.
