11 bit studios has officially confirmed that a Frostpunk game is in production. Most likely, it is Frostpunk 3.
The development of a new project in the universe of the post-apocalyptic city planner was launched recently, and the release is scheduled for 2027. At the same time, the studio is working on another, larger game — it is expected to be released in 2029. Przemysław Marshal, the chairman of the board of 11 bit studios, says that he wants to expand the scale of his projects and make development more stable in terms of finances.
«This underlies our decision to initiate production on the next project set in the Frostpunk universe, which we plan to launch as early as 2027. In parallel, we have commenced development on a larger-scale title, targeted for release in 2029», — he says.
At the same time, Frostpunk 2 was not abandoned, as the game was released in the fall of 2024. The studio has a lot of updates in the pipeline: future DLC, including new gameplay features. They are also preparing console versions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 — they should be released in 2025.
At the same time, 11 bit studios ended 2024 with less profit than expected. The reasons are weak sales of The Thamaturge and Creatures of Ava, as well as the decision to cut the upcoming project with the working title Project 8. But the studio expects to improve the situation in 2025. Sci-fi adventure to be released in June, The Alters, which recently received a trailer and told about alternative clones with survival on a strange planet. Later, Moonlighter 2 will be released, and after that — the Souls-like card game The Outer Zone: Death Howl.
It’s likely that Frostpunk 3 will be a financially safe step for the studio to balance the risks. The first installment was a hit, the second one is still successful, and the third one is questionable but has a chance to consolidate its success.
