Actor Ralph Fiennes has revealed new details about the upcoming «28 Years Later» trilogy, which will continue the zombie apocalypse franchise after almost two decades of hiatus.
«This is a trilogy that has already been made into two movies», — said (via Deadline) Finesse to IndieWire.
According to the actor, the plot unfolds 28 years after the start of the terrible epidemic. Britain is inhabited by infected people who have turned into cruel, rabid creatures. Only a few uninfected communities have survived. The story centers on a young boy who is looking for a doctor for his dying mother. He leads her through the picturesque northern landscapes of England, where the infected are hiding in the forests and hills. The boy finds a doctor who seems strange at first, but turns out to be a «force for good».
The authors of the original film — director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland returned to create the first part of the trilogy.
Cillian Murphy, who starred in «28 Days Later» (2002) but did not appear in the sequel «28 Weeks Later» (2007), returns to the role of Jim — a former bike courier who wakes up from a coma to find that a «rage virus» has ravaged London. Murphy also acts as an executive producer.
The new sequel also stars Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman and Edwin Riding.
The first part of the trilogy will be released on June 20, 2025.
