The government has adopted amendments to the resolution on the use of radio frequencies, which allows to start the implementation of 5G in Ukraine. This is reported by ITC.UA with reference to Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
A 5G pilot project will be launched in three cities of Ukraine to test the compatibility of next-generation communications with military equipment. The pilot will be conducted in two stages and will last for 2 years. During the tests, the NCCC and the Ukrainian State Center for Radio Frequencies will check whether 5G equipment does not affect the operation of military networks.
The launch of the pilot project is an important step toward the full launch of 5G by 2030, Fedorov said. The 5G standard allows data transmission 10 times faster than 4G. This creates new opportunities for exchanging large amounts of information at ultra-high speeds. The new technology will also provide more flexibility for operators, allowing them to use 2100 MHz frequencies for 2G, 3G, and 4G, and free up 694-862 MHz frequencies for mobile communications.
«The resolution will also provide more flexibility for operators — 2100 MHz frequencies can now be used not only for 3G, but also for 2G or 4G technologies. And the termination of the use of 694-862 MHz frequencies for analog and digital television will free them up for mobile communications», writes Mikhail Fedorov.
