Action movie trailer «Ballerina» — Keanu Reeves hunts Ana de Armas in spinoff «John Wick»

In a few months, the action franchise «John Wick» will return to the big screen, but this time with Ana de Armas in the title role — and, judging by the new trailer, «Ballerina» will face off against Keanu Reeves himself.

«Ballerina» — is a spinoff of «John Wick», which tells the story of former ballerina Eva Maccaro, who turns into a ruthless killer to take revenge on the people who destroyed her family. The character appeared in the original films, but was played by Unité Phelan. Ana de Armas will offer a new perspective on Maccaro, and she won’t be alone in the fray — Keanu Reeves will reprise the role of John Wick, as the events unfold between the third and fourth films in the series, where his character hasn’t had a tragic ending yet.

Action movies are no stranger to de Armas, who played James Bond’s girlfriend in «A Time to Die» with Daniel Craig. At the same time, it was her first Oscar nomination for the role of Marilyn Monroe in the psychological drama «Blonde».

In addition to de Armas and Reeves, the cast of «Ballerina» includes Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Gabrielle Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and the late Lance Reddick.

The screenplay was written by Shay Hatten («Army of the Dead») and directed by Len Weisman («Another World»). At the same time, some reports suggest that Vick director Chad Stagelski was forced to reshoot the film from scratch because Lionsgate was allegedly unhappy with Weisman’s work, although the studio later denied it. According to Wrap, the first version of the movie «Ballerina» turned out to be «messy», and the reshootslasted for 2-3 months, which, in turn, was a long time,influenced the development of the remake «Highlander», which Stagelski is in charge of.

We would like to remind you that «John Wick 4», which was released two years ago, earned more than $440 million at the box office, earning the title of the highest-grossing film in the series (all four films have grossed more than $1 billion). As for the fifth movie, it officially in the works, but Reeves’ return is in doubt; the actor himself has repeatedlysaid that his character got a perfect endingand does not plan to «wear a black suit again».

Actually, the movie with de Armas — is not the only spinoff «in the world of John Wick». In September 2023, Peacock released a prequel miniseries «Continental» starring Mel Gibson, and a sequel series «Under the High Table».
