Оновлення BIOS, день перший / Reddit
A motherboard whose multi-day BIOS update was followed by a Reddit audience crashed on Monday, after 100 hours of updating. «He lived badly, died like a hero».
The user GoatWithAGun was texting and photographing the update, which he started with the hope of improving the stability of the computer. He began to write about it when he saw that his old Biostar motherboard was taking an extremely long time to update. In the image above, you can see a screenshot from his first message.
When ITC.ua wrote about it, the process lasted more than 48 hours. Now, as they used to say, after a «long serious illness», the user’s PC has stopped showing signs of «life». The BIOS programmer ordered by GoatWithAGun has not yet arrived. PC owner wrote a farewell message:
«As of 2:14 PM PST, my monitor lost signal from my PC, which was unresponsive to any troubleshooting attempts. Thanks again to everyone who followed me through this and especially to those who donated, I really appreciate it.
I won’t be posting here anymore about this (although my BIOS programmer hasn’t arrived yet, I’ll probably announce it later this month), so for those who are tired of me, this is probably the last you’ll see of me. For those who were hoping the motherboard would survive, sorry for the disappointment. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this, and goodbye.»
As a reminder, in addition to the BioStar A320MH rev 6.0 motherboard, the computer has an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor, 4 GB of DDR4-2400 Kingston HyperX memory, an Asus GTX 1660 graphics card, a 128 GB Transcend SATA SSD, and a 480 GB Crucial SATA drive. It’s likely that the components will now work in the new system, unless their owner gives up and finds another old motherboard. But it makes a lot of sense not to do so, and instead buy an inexpensive laptop or to collect something more interesting.
This story seems to illustrate a generational shift. Instead of just throwing away the old motherboard, as the author of the news and some commenters on the previous post would have done, the young man (judging by the posts) is doing a multi-day broadcast of a frankly hopeless process. Well, it was a bright attempt.
