20th Century Studios is working on the idea of «Alien: Romulus 2», which would continue the narrative of the first film, with Fede Alvarez likely to return to direct.
In an interview with THR, 20th Century Fox CEO Steve Asbell spoke about the success of «Alien: Romulus 2» and what might be the next step for the sequel:
«We are currently working on an idea for a sequel. We haven’t signed a deal with Fede [Alvarez] yet, but we’re going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on».
As you can imagine, the movie is still at the concept stage, and it’s too early to talk about any details beyond those mentioned. But if there is a common desire of the studio, the director, the story idea and the success of its predecessor, «Alien: Romulus 2» has a very high chance of happening.
«The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Kaley Spani and David Jonsson, were the real highlights of the movie. That’s why I always think about it like this: «Wow, where do people want to see them next?» We know they’re going to be great horror movies, but I fell in love with both of them and I want to see their story,» says Steve Asbell.
«Alien: Romulus» was able to revitalize the franchise and became the second highest grossing film series, after «Prometheus». The movie as a whole received favorable reviews from critics and viewers, so the idea of continuing the success seems logical.
