The actress of the movie «Alien: Romulus» Kaylee Spaney looked to other horror and sci-fi movies to best play up her scare in the movie.

In the movie, a group with Spaney’s character encounters the iconic xenomorphs in the classic setting of an abandoned space station. Even considering the long hours involved in making films like this, it’s not clear what’s more exhausting: the filming process or having to learn and reenact the horror for days on end

«I try, but to be honest, when you’ve been filming a movie like this for months and doing so much, there’s no time to be scared! All the time I’m at home, I have horror movies on. So it’s «The Texas Chainsaw Massacre», «The Blair Witch» or «Almost Dark». When you seem to be out of ideas, you think: «I don’t know how to be scared again today». I have three facial expressions, and you’ve seen them all about 100 times,» Spanaway told SFX magazine.

Imitating the classics is very important for the director of «Alien: Romulus» Fede Alvarez. From the very beginning, he wanted the cinematography in his movie to imitate «Alien» Ridley Scott.

«We have a scanned original 35mm copy of «Alien», and we compare it on screen frame by frame with our work», — Alvarez tells SFX.

In the early days of the project, Alvarez and production designer Naaman Marshall worked hard to get the set to look right. The director explains how they dug into the archives and looked for inspiration in the works of conceptual artist Ron Cobb: «We found a lot of concept art created for these films that was not used. And we found a way to be inspired by it and put it into this movie».

In «Alien: Romulus» stars David Jonsson, Archie Reno, and Spike Fearn as Kaley Spanaway’s friends. The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on August 15.
