Alienware unveils Area-51 gaming PC for $4500 — what’s inside

Published by Andrii Rusanov

Alienware resurrects the super-powerful gaming PCs Area-51, which were last released in 2017. Components in the massive 80-liter case cost a fortune.

Area-51 provides up to 600W of power for unnamed “high-end video cards NVIDIA next generation “, as well as up to 280W of power for the processor “from” Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.

The completely redesigned air flow direction system keeps all this cool. Instead of using an exhaust fan, Area-51 creates positive pressure inside the case and pushes hot air out the back. Alienware claims that this approach provides significantly better cooling efficiency compared to previous brand PCs.

The case cooling system includes two 140 mm fans directing air upward to the video card, two 180 mm fans at the front, and two or three 120 mm fans on top that cool the liquid system.

Alienware claims that the “positive pressure” design allows 25% more air flow, provides 13% better cooling, and 45% less noise than the latest generation Alienware Aurora system. As a result, the case creates conditions for up to 50% better computing power.

A natural advantage is the ability to upgrade. The spacious Area-51 case opens easily by turning a handle at the back. QR codes inside refer to tutorial videos on replacing various components. There are even manuals for basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning three removable filters.

The computer offers up to 64 GB of fast DDR5 XMP memory with a speed of 6400 MT/s, up to 8 TB for data storage on two 4 TB drives each, and support for liquid cooling of a massive radiator. The power is supplied by a 1500W power supply unit with a platinum rating or a somewhat modest 850W PSU.

The “most popular” model will cost the owner $4499 in the first quarter of 2025. Alienware has not disclosed the price of more affordable options, but they will appear next year.
