Amazon
The latest update to Amazon Kindle adds an option that allows you to flip through e-book pages without touching the screen — you need to double-click on the side or back of the device.
This update will save e-reader owners from the long-standing problem of fingerprints on the screen, but on the downside — it’s only available for the latest models Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft.
Readers note that the update did not come automatically — it will have to be installed manually by Amazon instructions.
«The feature works well, with relatively easy taps anywhere in Colorsoft. Since it requires two taps in quick succession, it is unlikely to be activated by mistake. Unfortunately, page turning is currently limited to only one direction — going to a new page or scrolling down a long list of books. Perhaps future updates will fix this», — writes by The Verge’s Andrew Liszewski.
Update 5.18.1 is available on all Kindle readers starting with models «10th generation» 2018 (except for the double-tap feature), and among other things includes a summary option for thousands of new books, which apparently works with artificial intelligence.
Last year in October, Amazon showed four new Kindles — the aforementioned color «reader» Kindle Colorsoft for $279 and the updated Kindle Paperwhite for $159, as well as the Kindle Scribe for $399 with note-taking features and the 12th generation Kindle, which costs $109 and is positioned as the most «compact» e-book reader with a brighter display.
Instead, production «readers» with physical buttons Kindle Oasis has been discontinued. But it seems that the new double-tap option for flipping through pages may please its longtime fans.
