It seems that AMD’s announcement does not take into account all the problems with Ryzen 9xx0X3D processors.
As a reminder, there is a thread on the ASRock Reddit channel a list with more than 100 mentions of problems with processors X3D, which prevented users from starting the system. Some of them contain photos of physical damage to processors or sockets. The list mainly refers to ASRock motherboards and Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but there are also cases with other manufacturers and processors, including Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The following statement was made by the website Club386 received from AMD:
«We are aware of a limited number of user reports that ASRock AM5 motherboards are unable to perform POST. After joint research, AMD and ASRock have identified a memory compatibility issue present in previous BIOS versions that has been fixed in the latest BIOS version. ASRock has already published guidelines for this behavior and addressed a single CPU damage report.
It is worth noting that POST failure can be caused by a number of factors and does not necessarily indicate a non-functional CPU. We recommend that users start by updating their BIOS to the latest version available for their particular motherboard model.
If the problem persists, we recommend that users contact our customer support team for further assistance and diagnosis».
As you can see, AMD actually repeats ASRock’s statements about memory problems, the need to update the BIOS and mysterious debris in motherboards. As for the processors that actually burned out and show signs of physical damage, the situation remains unclear. It is also worth noting that in some cases, like the last one, users managed to update the BIOS.
