Published by Andrii Rusanov

Jack Huynh, AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics officially introduced Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D offers 500 MHz higher frequency than the 7800X3D. This Zen 5 octa-core processor is the first in a new line of custom chips to feature built-in 3D V-Cache, which provides an additional 64 MB for faster gaming and other tasks.

AMD confirms that this is the second generation of X3D, where the CCD (Core Complex Die) with 8 Zen 5 cores is placed above the cache. Jack Huynh confirmed that the 9800X3D will be the company’s first overclockable X3D chip, although he did not provide specific details.

AMD claims an 8% improvement in gaming performance over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The test was conducted on a system with an X670 AORUS Master motherboard, 2×16 GB of DDR5-6000 memory, and an NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card. The increase varies from 1% in Cyberpunk 2077 to 26% in Hogwarts Legacy.

Compared to the recently announced Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, the processor is on average 20% faster in games. The data is based on 40+ games tested, but not all of them are shown in the chart. In particular, AMD claims up to 59% performance improvement in Cyberpunk 2077.

Website AMD demonstrates the full specifications of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Among them are a base clock frequency of 4.7 GHz and an increased frequency of 5.2 GHz. TDP is 120 watts.

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is compatible with all existing AM5 motherboards. The processor will be available on November 7 with a suggested price of $479.
