Apple announces Final Cut Pro 11 with AI and spatial video support

Published by Vadym Karpus

Apple has unveiled a new version of its professional video editing software — Final Cut Pro 11. It includes new features, including those powered by artificial intelligence.

The Magnetic Mask feature in Final Cut Pro 11 allows users to isolate people or objects in a clip without using a green screen.

Transcribe to Captions is powered by an extensive language model trained by Apple that transcribes audio recordings.

The new Final Cut Pro 11 also lets you edit spatial video shot on the iPhone 15 Pro series, iPhone 16 series, or Canon R7 paired with the RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens. Users can import spatial video, add effects, adjust color, and adjust depth position. Final Cut Pro 11 will also show left and right eye angles on supported Mac displays and run on Vision Pro.

The new Final Cut Pro 11 will run on all Macs with macOS Sonoma and at least 8 GB of RAM, although some features will require Apple Silicon chips.

Apple is also releasing an update for the iPad version of Final Cut — Final Cut Pro 2.1, which will require an M1 chip or later or an iPad mini (with A17 Pro) and iPadOS 17.6 or later.

The iPad version has received lighting and color enhancements that allow you to fine-tune color, color balance, contrast, and brightness. Apple also added a new vertical gesture to increase and decrease the height of a clip in the timeline.

iPad users will also get the Live Drawing feature, which allows them to add animations to videos. Support for 90, 100, and 120 frames per second timelines is also available with the iPhone 16 Pro.

Apple has announced a new version of Final Cut Camera for iPhone and iPad. Final Cut Camera 1.1 now supports HEVC files in Apple Log, LUT previews during recording, and a new level indicator with tilt and skew indicators and a crosshair for top-down shooting.

Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac costs $299 as a one-time purchase. Apple offers a free 90-day trial to new users. Existing paid users will receive all new updates for free. Final Cut Pro for iPad costs $4.99 per month or $49 per year.
