Apple fans are not impressed with the iPhone 16e: only 7% of users plan to buy a «budget» device, while another 90% — consider it too expensive

User sentiment suggests that it will be difficult for Apple to turn the iPhone 16e into a box office hit.

According to the survey Sellcell, 72.9% of Apple users are not very impressed with the iPhone 16e, where 30.7% «not at all» and the rest — «slightly impressed» with the smartphone for $599 with a single camera on the back and a 6.1-inch screen

This solo camera is one of the main reasons why most iPhone 15 or «older» owners do not intend to switch to a new «budget» Apple device. A significant number of users are also upset with the lack of compatibility with MagSafe in the iPhone 16eand even more people say the device is «not cheap enough» to compete with other iPhone 16 models — only 8.4% of respondents consider its price fair.

Key figures from a survey of more than 3,500 US iPhone owners

  • 91.6% of users consider the iPhone 16e to be too expensive, while 72.7% suggest that the adequate price should have remained at $500, and 18.9% say they would buy the smartphone for only $429 (the cost of the latest SE);
  • Almost a quarter (23.8%) would like to see Apple release a new budget version of the «e» for each iPhone in the future, as opposed to 76.2% who have no interest in future iterations of the «iPhone e»;
  • Only 7.3% of Apple users with an iPhone 15 or older plan to upgrade to the iPhone 16e when they upgrade.

The main reasons to consider the iPhone 16e for those who plan to buy it:

  • «Fits my budget» — 72.3%;
  • «Longer battery life» — 67.4%;
  • «The latest Apple A18 processor» — 36.2%;
  • «Longer software support due to the new model» — 23.2%.

Instead, among the factors of those who refuse to purchase the iPhone 16e were:

  • «No multiple rear camera sensors, wide-angle or telephoto lens» — 52.6%;
  • «Prefer a higher-end model because I want the best of what Apple has to offer, regardless of price» — 34%;
  • «Relatively cheap, but not cheap enough to gain an advantage over higher-end iPhone 16 models» — 25.3%;
  • «No MagSafe compatibility for faster wireless charging» — 16.1%;
  • «No significant upgrades over my current phone» — 14.3%.

Reasons that influence the decision to upgrade a smartphone for iPhone users:

  • Battery life — 49.4%
  • Camera quality — 45.2%
  • Brand loyalty — 28.4%
  • Functions — 23.3%
  • Productivity — 18.4%

Overall, 38% of older iPhone users did not plan to upgrade their device this year, while the rest most often considered: iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max (23.7%), iPhone 16/16 Plus (19.8%), an Android device (10.4%), and an older/refurbished iPhone (8.1%).

As a reminder, Appleintroduced the iPhone 16ein February (before that, it was leaked asiPhone SE 4) — the smartphone has a 6.1-inch OLED display, A18 chipset, 8 GB of RAM, storage with a capacity of 128 GB or more, and support for Apple’s proprietary AI tools, but has only one 48-megapixel camera on the rear panel. In Ukraine, the iPhone 16e is sold atat a price starting from UAH 34,999.
