Apple plans to produce M5 processors in the second half of 2025. The assembly of the first devices will be conducted by Chinese BYD Electronics.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the first to receive the M5 will be the Apple iPad Pro. It is set to enter mass production in the second half of next year. Assembly of the iPad Pro M5 is entrusted to BYD Electronics, which will also assemble the upcoming Apple HomePod with a display, planned for release at the end of 2025. The M4 chip also debuted in the iPad Pro with an OLED display in May 2024.
Earlier, it was unofficially known that Apple had already ordered M5 processors from TSMC. The M5 series is expected to feature an enhanced architecture and will be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3-nm process technology. It was reported that Apple decided against the more advanced 2-nm process by TSMC due to its high cost. However, the M5 will have significant advantages over the M4, particularly due to the application of TSMC’s System on Integrated Chip (SoIC) technology.
Apart from the new processor, there are no other details available about the Apple iPad Pro M5. According to earlier insider information, Apple will change the orientation of the logo on the tablet from vertical to horizontal to avoid it looking odd while used with a keyboard.
