Apple presented updated iMac monoblocks with an M4 processor, enhanced creativity and AI capabilities. The computer received new body colors, more RAM, and a better camera.
The base iMac model costs $1299 and comes with two Thunderbolt USB-C ports. Higher models start at $1499 and have four USB-C ports.
It also comes with Magic accessories, which now use USB-C charging ports instead of Lightning. Like the previous version, the new iMac features a 24-inch 4.5K display. However, Apple is offering a new nanotextured glass option for an additional $200, which should help reduce glare.
The amount of RAM has doubled since the previous model — the base iMac now has 16GB of memory, expandable to 32GB.
The all-in-one has a 12-megapixel Center Stage webcam and new Apple Intelligence features that support artificial intelligence. These include AI-assisted text writing and editing, as well as an updated Siri voice assistant. Pre-orders for the new iMac start today, and sales will begin on November 8.
The computer is available in seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. The iMac on M4 supports Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The M4 chip debuted alongside new iPad Pro in May, but it has reached the Mac line only now. According to Apple, the M4 processor in the new iPad Pro is made using the so-called «second-generation 3 nm» technology. The company claims that the chip has up to 10 CPU cores and a 10-core GPU.
The announcement of the updated iMac M4 came a few weeks after the unexpected presentation of the new iPad Mini, which was last updated in 2021.
