Assassin's Creed Shadows / Ubisoft
Ubisoft has released a cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and changed its position on porting the game to Steam Deck.
The studio emphasized the role of two main characters – shinobi Naoe and samurai Yasuke with the phrases «an allegiance sealed in blood» and «justice is forged in the shadows.». The protagonists make a promise to let «hope grows in shadows» as they fight corruption and brutality against the backdrop of the chaotic Sengoku period
But most importantly — Ubisoft has changed its initial position and officially confirmed support for Steam Deck. You will be able to play Shadows on the portable console on the day of release. Initially, the studio said that Steam Deck would not receive support due to the alleged system requirements that exceeded the capabilities of a portable console.
But it is not without its nuances: the game has not yet received the official status of «Verified for Steam Deck» from Valve, so it is not yet clear whether it will be fully optimized for the platform or will only receive the status of «Playable». For comparison, previous Assassin’s Creed titles on Steam Deck work fine, so Shadows has a good chance of doing so as well.
The release is coming soon, so Ubisoft «is luring» players to pre-order with bonuses. Players who purchase the game before release will receive:
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature a huge open world that includes Japanese castle cities, trade ports, shrines, and war-torn territories. The game features a change of seasons and dynamic weather that affect the gameplay and stealth capabilities. The full the game will take about 80 hours to complete that, less than Valhalla with 100 hours.
Another interesting element is a network of spies. The player will be able to recruit agents that will collect information, open new targets, and help in the completion of missions.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for release on March 20, 2025. The game will weigh 107.77 GB, and the release time will vary slightly depending on the platform. Shadows will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, macOS (via Apple Silicon), and Steam Deck (support confirmed but pending Valve verification).
But the upcoming launch of the game did not go «smoothly» for Ubisoft — almost a month before the online release «leaked» videos with gameplay and photos of disks. Users immediately began to mock the quality of the game. In response, the studio denied that the leaks were not the final version and urged gamers not to criticize the quality of Shadows.
