Atomfall / Rebellion
Atomfall became the most successful release in Rebellion’s history at launch — «British Fallout» with 1.5 million players across all platforms.
The studio managed to cross this mark in less than a week. Although the game is not actually a clone of Bethesda’s Fallout — the idea of exploring an alternative Britain, devastated by catastrophe turned out to be attractive. Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley did not hide his joy in a press release:
«We are delighted that so many players are enjoying Atomfall. To have surpassed the 1 million players in such a short space of time speaks volumes for the creativity and dedication of the entire team here at Rebellion. Our size and stability mean that we can take risks to create something as different as Atomfall. Happily, that risk is paying off», — he said.
Atomfall was launched in early access on March 24 for owners of the Deluxe Edition, and on March 27, it went live. In addition, the project immediately appeared on Xbox Game Pass, which definitely added players.
And if the game’s style itself evokes associations with Fallout, its authenticity is a separate story. Rebellion also released some truly British statistics:
Survival in the Apocalypse — is serious, but tradition is tradition. And while most people enjoy exploring the gloomy British landscape, speedrunners were able to complete the game in just almost 29 minutes.
The speedrunner used the easiest difficulty level to avoid long battles and shortened the route thanks to the «mysterious phone caller» plot. The quest allows you to skip a lot of interactions. But you still have to collect key items, hack into data storages, and activate the central processing unit to reach the final.
Atomfall takes place five years later in the quarantine zone of the UK, where players will explore abandoned villages, caves and military facilities trying to survive among mutants and dangerous groups.
