OpenAI has started testing a separate ChatGPT program for Windows. Currently, only users of the paid version of the service can use it.
Just like the Mac version of the program, ChatGPT for Windows allows users to ask questions to an AI-based chatbot in a special window that can be kept open along with other programs. Users can quickly access the program by using the Alt+Space key combination.
The program also allows you to upload files and photos to ChatGPT and has access to a preview of the OpenAI o1 model capable of «reasoning». However, this application still lacks some features, such as an advanced voice mode.
Currently, ChatGPT for Windows is only available to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers, but OpenAI says it plans to make it available to everyone later this year.
Shortly after OpenAI launched its ChatGPT app on Mac in June, the developer noticed a security vulnerability that stored conversations in plain text. Since then, OpenAI has addressed this issue and now encrypts locally stored data.
ChatGPT for Windows is available for download from Microsoft Store.
