Light of Motiram
Light of Motiram has released a new gameplay trailer, which, at first glance, looks like Horizon with a new logo.
The project by Polaris Quest, a Chinese studio of Tencent, is very similar to the famous Eloy game: robotic animals, an abandoned post-apocalyptic world, characters with bows — all too familiar. But if you dig deeper, the game still has some unique features.
Light of Motiram is an open-world survival game with a focus on construction, taming of mechanical creatures (here they are called «mechanals») and cooperation. Players will be able to build bases, defend them, and organize battles with the help of tamed machines. The construction system is based on realistic physics, and the game will feature more than 100 types of mechanomals, each with its own combat and production modes.
In PvE modes, players will be able to control mechs, customize them, and put them in the role of tanks, combat assistants, or workers. The battle itself emphasizes melee combat with evasion, blocks, and counterattacks — less shooting, more dynamics. Another important difference is the support for continuous cooperative play for up to 10 players. Horizon does not currently have this option, although Guerrilla is already working on Horizon Online. But in the near future, the «co-op will not be a part of the» universe with Eloi.
But we can’t directly accuse Light of Motiram of plagiarism, because Guerrilla doesn’t have a patent on the open world, crafting, and mechanical creatures. But it is very hard not to notice the similarities that look like a meme «just don’t copy exactly». The art style, animations, lens flares, battles with «mammoths», even the logo font — all of it almost like in Horizon Zero Dawn. The official description also sounds familiar: the game is about humanity trying to «recover from the dawn of a new primitive era». But, knowing Chinese trends in games, the main character will not be made ugly on purpose «ugly».
Also, the game has already received the system requirements and will weigh much less than most large projects — only 30 GB. So maybe this game won’t be that big.

Speaking of Tencent, the Chinese studio has recently been in the media spotlight because acquired a stake in the new Ubisoft studio. Now, the major franchises — Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six — have a new patron. Whether it’s related or not, shortly after this news Ubisoft faces record low price for its shares.
