Cyberpunk 2077 is the first game to support DLSS 4

Published by Andrii Rusanov

CD Projekt Red released a patch for Cyberpunk 2077 to version 2.21, which adds support for NVIDIA DLSS 4 and other changes. Thus, Cyberpunk 2077 was the first to receive DLSS 4.

It is clear that the new generation of frames will only work on RTX 50xx video cards, but other DLSS 4 technologies will be available. This includes the new Transformer scaling model, which provides a significantly better image. Its performance can be seen even on RTX 30xx cards. DLSS 4 produces fewer artifacts and better smoothing when ray reconstruction is used. Stability, lighting, and details during motion have also been improved. Here is what is mentioned in the official changelog of Cyberpunk 2077 2.21 for PC:

  • Added support for DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation for GeForce RTX 50 series, which increases the frame rate using artificial intelligence to generate up to three frames for one normal — enabled for the GeForce RTX 50 series from January 30. DLSS 4 also provides faster single frame generation with reduced memory usage for RTX 50 and 40 series. Additionally, you can now choose between a CNN model or the new Transformer model for DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS Super Resolution, and DLAA on all GeForce RTX video cards from today. The new Transformer model improves stability, lighting, and detail in motion.
  • Fixed artifacts and spots on screens when using DLSS Ray Reconstruction.
  • The “Frame Generation” field in the graphics settings will now be properly reset after switching “Resolution Scaling” (to OFF).

It does not matter when the updated NVIDIA driver releases — DLSS 4 libraries are supplied with the game. Later, the new driver will also update DLSS if necessary.
