Destiny: Rising – RPG shooter in the Destiny universe for mobile devices

Published by Vadym Karpus

Previous rumors about the expansion of the Destiny franchise to mobile devices have been confirmed. Chinese studio NetEase Games is developing a new free-to-play mobile fantasy RPG shooter Destiny: Rising. It will offer several hero characters, a shared world, as well as PvE and PvP modes set in the Destiny universe.

Destiny: Rising will take place in an alternate timeline of Destiny, exploring the post-Dark Age era of the universe before the Tower and the Guardians. NetEase licenses the Bungie Destiny brand and has been given the creative freedom to develop its own storyline and vision for Destiny: Rising.

«We want to capture and reflect a specific time where the reins are in the hands of players to experience, explore, define», — say NetEase.

Unlike Destiny or Destiny 2, players will be able to choose from a variety of Destiny hero characters instead of creating their own Guardian based on the Hunter, Warlock, or Titan classes. The hero characters available include Ikora Rey, who exists in Destiny and Destiny 2, as well as many new characters.

Each character will have unique abilities and stories, and will have access to single player, cooperative, and competitive multiplayer modes. There will also be the usual Ghosts, Lightbringers, Iron Lords, and Warlords known in the Destiny universe before Last City. In the game’s trailer, you can see the variety of characters and their new abilities, including the new Void Scythe, which is very similar to what a Warlock would use in the main Destiny games. There are also familiar enemies.

Destiny: Rising will allow you to play in first- or third-person mode using touch controls or controllers. There will be regular campaign missions, cooperative raids for six players, and recurring PvE and PvP modes. The Destiny mobile game will offer powerful exotic weapons, new mythical weapon rarity, and new locations. Part of the new Destiny narrative includes the search for the seeds of hope that will «shape the future of human civilization» after its collapse in the Dark Age of Destiny.

The alpha test of Destiny: Rising alpha test will start next month. During the test, «a significant part of the main campaign» will be available along with «at least one map for all game modes». NetEase has not yet announced the monetization system of this project.
