The game based on «Transformers» was also unlucky.
So, the year 2024 is coming to an end — it’s time to summarize and recall both the good and the bad. The review aggregator Metacritic has traditionally released a list of the worst games of the outgoing year. And while there are some big names on this list, unfortunately, they disappointed critics and players alike.
The list is headed by Utopia City, a first-person shooter that was released in Europe in 2006 and only appeared on Steam last month. The game, which promised «large-scale combat scenes» in a dystopian virtual world, offered only a weak «Matrix»-style plot and poor graphics (even by 2006 standards).
The second place went to Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat — a mobile action-RPG in the Devil May Cry universe with gacha elements. Despite decent graphics and a combat system, critics noted a weak plot and an excessive emphasis on in-game purchases.
The third place is taken by HappyFunland — an adventure VR horror for PS5 (also available for VR systems on PC), which takes place in an abandoned amusement park with a dark story. A good concept and humor did not save the game from numerous technical flaws that seriously disappointed reviewers.
