February 24, 2025 marks 3 years since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Co-founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterin (originally from russia, now living in Singapore) published an emotional post in support of Ukraine. He emphasized the strength of the Ukrainian people’s spirit and their centuries-long struggle for freedom and independence.

«Ukraine is everything and more. Many have worked hard and sacrificed much over decades (perhaps centuries) to make it what it is today. I wish the country a bright, secure, sustainable, free and independent future», — Buterin wrote in X.

This is not the first time that one of the most influential figures in the crypto community has expressed support for Ukraine. Even at the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Buterin strongly condemned the Kremlin’s aggression, calling it a “crime against the Ukrainian and Russian peoples,” and wished everyone safety.

At the same time, he donated significant amounts in Ethereum to the humanitarian needs of Ukraine — in particular, in April 2022, he transferred 1500 ETH (equivalent to $5 million at the time) to Unchain Ukraine and Aid For Ukraine.

In 2024, Buterin also visited Kyiv during Ukrainian Blockchain Week and took part in the ETHKyiv hackathon, which emphasized his interest in developing the tech community in Ukraine even in wartime.
