YouTube channel Digital Foundry tested the NVIDIA RTX 5080 graphics card. In Cyberpunk 2077 DLSS 4 frame generation provides a tremendous acceleration with high image quality.
According to the results, the new generation of frames at 3x and 4x DLSS 4 levels on RTX 5080 demonstrates a gigantic increase in performance. At 4K resolution with RT Overdrive, DLSS 4 Performance, and 2x Frame Generation modes, the graphics card produces on average 525% more frames than native rendering without DLSS.
The difference increases to a dramatic 725% with 3x Frame Generation and an incredible 913% with 4x Frame Generation. In other words, DLSS 4 at 4x Frame Generation can increase the average FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 by more than 9 times.
The performance comparison of RTX 5080 with RTX 4080 Super showed that the new graphics card with DLSS 4 Performance and 4x Frame Generation is on average 91% faster compared to its predecessor, which operated with DLSS 4 Performance at 2x Frame Generation. Besides increasing performance, DLSS 4 Frame Generation also delivers better image quality compared to the previous technology. According to Digital Foundry, the image created by DLSS 4 and its new Transformer model looks better than that created by DLSS 3.
In DLSS 4 Frame Generation, there are practically no halos, which were a problem with the previous generation of the technology. Ray Reconstruction, which improves the quality of ray tracing, also delivers noticeably better results. Ray Reconstruction in DLSS 4 is more stable and less prone to detail loss.
The performance increase with DLSS 4 does not lead to a significant increase in latency. Testers report an increase in latency from 50 ms in 2x mode to 57 ms for 4x frame generation. Overall, the technology has taken a significant step forward, bringing not only acceleration but also better images. Unfortunately, it is unknown how much RTX 5080 outperforms RTX 4080 Super in pure rendering without DLSS.
