Asus ZenBook Duo OLED і MSI Prestige AI EVO 16 / Asus, MSI
Intel’s new laptop processors are fast, but lag behind competitors in graphics and AI. The laptops have a strange power configuration and great, but not record-breaking, battery life.
The first reviews are focused on the MSI Prestige AI EVO 16, one of the few available to reviewers, but there is also at least one review of the Asus ZenBook Duo OLED with the same 14-core Intel Core Ultra 9 285H. The laptops have not yet gone on sale.
In performance tests, the processor outperforms competitors like the Core Ultra 9 185H and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and provides about 20% advantage over Meteor Lake, but lags behind AMD and Qualcomm chips in AI performance.
The built-in Arc 140T Alchemist+ graphics does not «grab stars from the sky» and is inferior to both Intel Arc 140T in more expensive chips, which is not surprising given the first-generation Xe cores and AMD Radeon 880M in Ryzen AI 9 365.
It’s worth paying attention to the laptop’s power supply features, which apparently do not allow the «processor to turn» even from the socket — the MSI power supply provides only 100 watts, and the Asus — model has 65 watts. Here’s what it says Notebookcheck:
«However, under load, there is a problem related to its high power because, oddly enough, a 100W power supply is not enough when a single processor consumes 115W under a multi-core load. This means that the battery always needs to be turned off briefly to cover the power consumption, which is certainly ideal for the battery. After about 20 seconds, its consumption drops to 88W and then to about 70W».
The 99.9 Wh battery, which is the highest in modern laptops, provides high, but not record-breaking battery life for 2024-2025. The laptop charges to 100% in two hours, with 80% available in half that time.
«Along with the fairly low consumption, we measured very good battery life. In the WLAN test at 150 cd/m² (which corresponds to 32% of the maximum brightness of our test device), we recorded an amazing 16.5 hours and over 11.5 hours at full brightness. The video test lasted almost 21 hours».
The MSI Prestige AI EVO 16 laptop is not yet available in stores, but Notebookcheck suggests a price of $2000. Asus ZenBook Duo OLED with two displays costs from $2170.
