«Я знаю, що ви скоїли минулого літа» / Sony
Sony Pictures is officially continuing the story of the cult horror of the 1990s «I Know What You Did Last Summer» — and has already shown the first trailer.
The original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. return to the film. They are joined by a new generation of heroes who will face a lot of blood and trials. The script for the new installment was written by Sam Lansky and Katelyn Robinson. In the story, a group of young people once again find themselves at the center of horrific events in Southport — and yes, it all starts with another attempt to sweep something under the rug. It seems that the characters learn nothing from it.
The first shots of the trailer begin with the preparation for meditation: the heroine Madeline Kline takes water in the bathtub, throws a bomb (which immediately suggests a pile of blood) and puts on headphones. Meanwhile, her boyfriend — Joshua Orpin — is being repeatedly pierced with a harpoon on the floor below.
«The energy you give to the universe always comes back to you», — the voice in the girl’s headphones says calmly, while the bloody scene in the frame continues.
When the new company realizes that things are getting out of hand, they turn to those who have been there before — Julie and Ray. Hewitt and Prince Jr. reprise their roles and now seem to become mentors in the story. Ray appears in the trailer at a town meeting and says: «This is not the first time something like this has happened in our town». And Julie asks the new generation directly: «What did you do last summer?»
The cast also includes Chase Sue Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyreke Withers and Sarah Pidgeon. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the title remains — «I Know What You Did Last Summer».
The first film told the story of four teenagers who hid a terrible incident. A year later, they encountered a figure in a raincoat with a hook, hunting them one by one. The success of the original cemented Hewitt’s status as a scream queen, but the franchise itself has never been a critical favorite.
And with the sequel, Sony is most likely banking on nostalgia. Probably, the studio is counting on millennials who grew up on this horror. The film will be released in theaters on July 18, 2025.
In parallel, Sony has released another horror film — Until Dawn, which is known for the game of the same name. In addition, the studio has launched a special contest dedicated to the release of the film adaptation with the main task of watching a movie all night long, without sleep, smartphones, or even going to the bathroom. Sony is also working on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn, and Ghost of Tsushima will receive an anime series.
