Cronos: The New Dawn / Bloober Team
Bloober Team has released the full gameplay of Cronos: The New Dawn — survival horror about post-apocalypse, time travel, and monster fusion.
The story of Cronos: The New Dawn is set in two timelines — in the post-apocalyptic future and 1980s Poland. The location is inspired by the real-life Nowa Huta, a Polish town created in 1949 as an industrial center around a steel mill. It became a symbol of communist urbanization and ideology, but eventually turned into a cultural and tourist center. The player takes on the role of the Traveler, an agent of the mysterious Collective, who goes back in time to save key people before the disaster.
The gameplay showed the key mechanic — The Merge. If you don’t burn the body of an enemy after killing it, it can be absorbed by another enemy. As a result, the enemy will become stronger, more resilient, and acquire new abilities. With each kill, the protagonist not only survives and gets rid of monsters, but also puts himself at risk of giving rise to an even more terrible enemy.
«How do you fight them? Fire! Burn the fallen before they merge with living creatures. The merge changes the game, adding a whole new layer of strategy to combat. Push your survival instincts to the max», — says Wojciech Pejko, Co-Director and Designer.
The main enemies — Orphans. These are perverse bodily monsters filled with «bodily horror, born of humanity’s darkest nightmares». Their design combines science fiction, retrofuturism, body horror, and grotesque.
Players are promised an extensive story, atmospheric locations with brutalist architecture and anomalies. As well as fierce weapons, mysterious characters, and fear at every turn. To immerse you even deeper into this world, the soundtrack was created by composer Arkadiusz Rejkowski together with the Polish-Ukrainian indie folk band Zazula. The music intertwines synthesizer horror and avant-garde ethnic motifs.
Cronos: The New Dawn can already be added to your wish list on Steam, PlayStation and Microsoft Store. The game is expected to be released in 2025 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The price of the game is not yet known.
