Archetype Games has released the first gameplay trailer for the sci-fi game Exodus, which is being developed by BioWare veteran James Olen.
Exodus is set in the distant future. After the destruction of the Earth, humanity built spaceships-arks and moved to the hostile Centauri star system. The game’s protagonist, June Aslan, travels to different planets in search of allies to confront the aggressive race known as the Covenanters.
Archetype describes June as a mix of Indiana Jones and Paul Atreides with «Dune». As in Mass Effect, it will be possible to customize the character by choosing a gender, and the game will have companions with the possibility of romantic relationships.
Key details of the game:
- The game’s structure combines structured quests and open areas for exploration, as in KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age Origins. Players are free to choose their own approach to completing tasks.
- The quests are based on the search for the technologies of the Celestials. Subsequent decisions on their use (social development, military potential, etc.) significantly affect the development of the game world.
- The choice of how to use the technology of the Celestials opens up access to unique weapons and new technological capabilities.
- The game features a wide team of companions, two of which can be taken on missions — a system familiar from Mass Effect.
- The game includes the possibility of developing romantic relationships.
- Conflicts will arise between the satellites, in which the player will have to choose a side to support.
- The player’s choice can radically change the companions, especially due to the effect of time dilation — characters left to their own devices can change or age by the time they return.
The overall aesthetics and the first look at the gameplay show similarities with Mass Effect, but the combat system looks more dynamic and faster.
The release date has not been announced yet. The game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
