Martin’s new story will be dedicated to the city of Braavos, which was repeatedly mentioned in the TV series «Game of Thrones» — it was home to the Black and White House, where Arya Stark studied with the Faceless Men.
It turns out that Braavos was one of the topics for which HBO was planning a series, but it was eventually canceled (or postponed for a while). At the same time, the author of «Game of Thrones» George Martin said that he would still create an additional story — after he finished «The Winds of Winter».
«The other day, they were going to pick up a story about Braavos that we were developing for HBO. Unfortunately, it was postponed. However, this does not mean that I will not return to it. Of course, after the completion of The Winds of Winter. Then I’ll have enough time to visit Amsterdam again,» Martin wrote in his «not on the blog».
Braavos, mostly known to fans of «Game of Thrones» as the city of «The Iron Bank» and home of «The Faceless», was inspired by Amsterdam and other European cities — that’s why the writer mentioned it in the commentary.
The Braavos series joins the collection of canceled HBO shows set in the «Game of Thrones» universe — the company previously canceled the prequel «Long Night», which spent $30 million on the pilot episode, and abandoned a direct prequel about Jon Snow. At the same time, the rest of the shows are in the works, including the next seasons of «A House of Dragons» and «A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms», the series about Aegon the Conqueror, whose script is written by an author «Batman» Matson Tomlin, andpreviously canceled prequel «10,000 ships».
As for the book «Winds of Winter», which is 10 years late, Martin’s last comments justified that made little progress in his work this year due to his involvement in television projects.
