With many updates, Google Chrome has been adding features that are more annoying than useful. Fortunately, you can turn off the latest copy notifications.
When copying an image, link, or some other action in Chrome 130, a small pop-up message appears that says «Link copied» and so on. The worst part is that the message stays on the screen for as long as 10 seconds (Google has even experimented with longer ones). Here’s a list of actions that trigger the notification:
Google believes that the confirmation feature is very convenient, but for some, it may seem like just another pointless interface change. According to the documentation, the idea behind Toast UI was part of a larger plan to make such notifications standard across all sites so that developers don’t have to create their own. The goal was to make it easier to create and use web pages, but the plan was not fully implemented.
Google hasn’t even made a corresponding setting in the interface, apparently considering the Toast Actions UI feature so great that no one would think of getting rid of it. So you’ll have to use Flags.
To turn off the «Link copied», «Image copied», «Link copied for highlighting», «Page added to reading list» notifications, you need to open a new tab, go to the chrome://flags and find Top Chrome Toasts, or go straight to chrome://flags/#top-chrome-toasts. Setting the value Disabled and restarting Chrome will get rid of the unpleasant «bubbles». You can also set the «life» of the notification to 8, 10, or 12 seconds, but this is hardly practical.
What’s more, Google schedules additional notifications — when you copy text and change security settings Sometimes the author of this news article mistakenly copies a link from a page instead of text, but such notifications are the last thing he wants to see.
