Google has allocated 700 thousand euros to Ukraine to study the basics of artificial intelligence

In February, Google released Gemma open-source language models and at the same time launched a special educational fund worth 25 million euros to teach Europeans about this very artificial intelligence. And now the program has become available for Ukraine.

We are talking about the Google.org program AI Opportunity Fund: Europeprogram, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Center for Public Impact as part of the broader AI Opportunity Initiative for Europe. The goal of the initiative is to make AI accessible and safe for everyone, from housewives to plumbers. The program prioritizes the most vulnerable segments of society that are most at risk from the development of AI technologies. The initiative’s key goals include supporting AI startups focused on socially significant problems and expanding access to free AI courses to gain the necessary knowledge and skills.

What does Google actually offer as part of the initiative? It offers subgrants and intensive training programs. The total budget for Ukraine is — 700 thousand euros. It will be distributed among non-profit organizations and public associations that will be selected through an open competition. The winners will receive special training programs in Ukrainianthat will cover basic knowledge of artificial intelligence. They also promise comprehensive support and counseling.

Google has already started accepting applications on the program’s website forusing the following online form — will last until June 28, 2024. All non-profit and civil society organizations or social enterprises, including trade unions and industry associations, municipalities, charitable organizations and professional associations, etc. are eligible to apply. The main criterion is specialization in working with people who need to gain confidence in using artificial intelligence tools in their professional activities.
