Google Pixel 9a: good and bad news about the price

Published by Vadym Karpus

The Google Pixel 9a is due in mid-March. But a new leak has already brought detailed information about the prices of different versions of this smartphone. There is both good news and bad news here.

Let’s start with the good news. The entry-level Google Pixel 9a model with 128 GB of internal storage will cost $499, just like the Pixel 8a last year. And now for the bad news. The 256GB version will cost $599, which is $40 more than the Pixel 8a with 256GB storage at launch.

The new pricing structure is in line with what Google started doing with the launch of the Pixel 9 family in August, where the 256GB model was always $100 more expensive than the 128GB model. This is obviously a money grab because the memory itself used for storage doesn’t have that much of a cost difference. So, what Apple has been doing for many, many years has now been taken over by Google.

As for the other specs of the Google Pixel 9a, the device will have a 6.285-inch screen with a peak brightness of 2700 nits and HDR brightness of 1800 nits. A Tensor G4 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage are also reported. On the back, a 48-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera will be available. The battery will have a capacity of 5100 mAh, the largest ever seen in a Pixel.
