While searching for information about GTA 6, Grand Theft Auto fans found the LinkedIn profile of Rockstar’s chief programmer, which sheds light on the studio’s work on the game.

The profile, a screenshot of which was published in r/GTA6 is owned by Ryan Woods, who working on GTA 6 since May 2020. It describes his work overseeing the «design, development, and optimization of the core Rockstar RAGE» internal engine. Moreover, the description mentions optimization efforts to «maintain smooth performance across multiple platforms, including next-gen consoles and PCs. Also mentioned is the «integration of new technologies and research into the engine pipeline, including ray tracing and procedural object generation.

Users speculate that GTA 6 can create objects anew every time, adding variety and realism to the world, but the mere mention of procedural generation seems vague. There are no details on how it might work or what exactly it would create — it could be small things or even the generation of objects or landscapes.

Someone on Reddit suggested that procedural generation could be used for small objects so that players don’t see exactly the same objects all over the world. It would also be efficient to automatically place objects — so that you don’t have to create and place each tree manually.

Ryan Woods, it seems, updated his LinkedIn profile after the leak, and it now contains a slightly different description. He doesn’t mention the RAGE engine, procedural generation, ray tracing, or the PC as a platform. However, even after these changes, his profile states: «Led the integration of advanced technologies such as advanced lighting and memory techniques into the engine pipeline to push the technical boundaries and development tools».

To summarize, the leak suggests that procedural generation is likely to be in some form, and the engine is undergoing a significant overhaul. GTA 6 is likely to be significantly different from its predecessor.
