NordPass password manager published has released a new ranking of the world’s most popular passwords, and it shows that the situation is not changing for the better from year to year.
For the second year in a row, «123456» has been the leader in the ranking, and in total, this password has been in the top five at least five times.
QWERTY hasn’t disappeared from the list either, and the most interesting ones are «iloveyou», «fuckyou», and passwords that reflect people’s interests, such as «pokemon», «naruto», «samsung», and «minecraft». At least some people are trying to be original and choose a secure password like «P@ssw0rd» (which, by the way, takes less than a second to crack). The breakdown by country looks interesting: in the UK, «liverpool» is among the top most popular passwords, in Poland — «agnieszka», and in Australia — «boobies».
NordPass says that they used a database of «publicly available sources» 2.5 TB in size, some of which were found on the dark web.
