Lucasfilm to replace screenwriter in «Star Wars: New Jedi Order» / Star Wars: New Jedi Order — yes, again.
The screenplay for the upcoming Charmaine Obaid-Chinois film was supposed to be written by Steven Knight («Sharp Caps»), but he had disagreements with Lucasfilm, as Jordan Rumi wrote in June on the website World of Reel:
«I wish I could tell you something about the behind-the-scenes drama of The New Jedi Order, but I’m sworn to secrecy and it’s killing me. I will say that Steven Knight has been trying to crack the script for over a year. Lucasfilm still hasn’t received the final draft».
At that time, it was known that Knight had written at least four drafts, and Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm regularly sent him comments on how to improve the story.
Lucasfilm is currently searching for a new screenwriter, which almost certainly means that the new «Star Wars» starring Daisy Ridley will not be released until December 2026, the date Disney has booked for the film.
Knight — is not the first screenwriter to attempt to create a script for «The New Jedi Order». Two years ago, Damon Lindelof («Watchmen») and Justin Britt-Gibson («The Other Side») developed their own drafts, which also said goodbye to Lucasfilm due to creative differences. There were also rumors about Charmaine Obeid-Chinoy’s replacement as director, but no confirmation has been made
It looks like the only movie in the «Star Wars» universe we can expect in the near future is «Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi», which will begin shooting next year under the direction of James Mangold («Logan»).
