The first two seasons of House of the Dragon were generally successful for HBO, but they did not escape criticism from the creator of the original story, George Martin. He complained, among other things, that the showrunners got rid of important characters from the books too early, which may affect the structure of the extension — and it seems that in the third season, they decided to level this drawback with what «Game of Thrones» once missed.
In a recent interview, the showrunner of House of the Dragon, Ryan Condal, promised to show one of the coolest things from the books in the new season, but did not go into details.
«We have some very specific things to build, and one of them is very internal, which we’ve heard a lot about from the book texts, but we’ve never really seen on screen in a concrete way», — Kondal said (via Comicbook). «I thought it would be cool. It’s one of those things where you have to capture all the little details from books and put it all together. It’s fun».
Of course, Condal’s words have already triggered a flood of crazy theories from fans on social media, and they mostly assume that the change will appear somewhere in the set and we will be shown a glass candle made of obsidian (a magical artifact from Valyria that allowed wizards to see events happening around the world), probably in the hands of Helena Targaryen. The candle also fits the show aesthetically, as Martin wrote that they were created in black and green, the signature colors of the two warring Targaryen factions. Actually, this can also significantly affect the course of the plot, giving preference to a certain side.
Martin, who significantly «spread» showrunners on his blog, later deleted the post. However, he has repeatedly criticized TV adaptations, which, in his opinion, are not good, are worse than books «in 999 out of 1000 cases» Recently, the writer has not provided any comments on the sequel to «House of the Dragon» and seems to be fully focused on a new project from the «Game of Thrones» universe — series «Knight of the Seven Kingdoms».
«House of the Dragon» has been extended for seasons 3 and 4, and the first two are currently being broadcast on Max (with Ukrainian dubbing, they are officially available on Megogo). The finale of the second season attracted a record 8.9 million viewers for the season, but his scores were the lowest for the show (criticized, among other things, the large number of protracted dialogues and intrigues along with the absence of a long-awaited naval battle).
