Initially, the shooting of Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie about the pop group Bee Gees was planned for the beginning of 2025, but the director reported that they had to be postponed — due to problems with the deal with Paramount.
As the director clarifies himself (through Variety) the studios did not like the demands he laid out in the agreement — likely financial, judging by Scott’s comment:
«Paramount changed the rules — I said they can’t do that and warned that I would move onto the next film, and they didn’t believe me», — says the director. «I did it. I’m expensive, but damn talented».
Scott added that he expects to find common ground with Paramount around September, and in the meantime will focus on the post-apocalyptic thriller “The Dog Stars”. The studio confirmed that the work on the Bee Gees film has been moved to fall.
Scott planned to make a biopic about Bee Gees early in his career, but at that time the trio of musician brothers “refused to work together”, and when the situation was resolved — the director did not have the necessary funding.
Recall that last year, Scott, in collaboration with Paramount, released a sequel to “Gladiator”, which received mixed reviews and currently has grossed about $455 million at the box office (with a budget rumored to be around $310 million). Initially, the director even planned to engage the actor who played Lucius (Paul Mescal) to work on “The Dog Stars”, but later changed his decision in favor of Jacob Elordi (“Priscilla”, “Euphoria”).
