Quentin Tarantino defended Bruce Willis’ latest films, which critics have panned for their poor quality.
Before Bruce Willis’ diagnosed with a rare form of dementia, He starred in numerous B movies (which were not even shown in theaters). Everyone understood that this was pure «hack work» for money — Willis was advertised as the star of the movie, although he appeared there for a couple of minutes.
Since 2014, Willis has appeared in more than 35 such films — in 2022 alone, his name appeared in 12 of them. All of these projects received extremely negative reviews, and the «Golden raspberries» even created a separate category for Willis (which was later canceled after his diagnosis).
However, Quentin Tarantino, known for his ambiguous statements defends these Willis films in his Video Archives podcast. The director admitted that he had recently watched many of these films and was impressed by what he saw.
«These films have been heavily criticized, with exposés written about them and bad things said», Tarantino said. — I was impressed with Bruce in those movies».
Tarantino admits that in many of these films it is obvious that Willis worked with an earpiece.
«You’ll never see a scene where Bruce says a line, someone else says a line, and he responds», he explained. — He only says one line at a time, so all the scenes are cut. But he somehow gets out of it. And not only does he work it out, but he puts his heart and soul into it.
Tarantino continued:
«I’ve watched about six of them, they’re very easy to watch. They are very entertaining. There are no classics among them, but those who turn their noses up at these films are clearly not aware of what real low-budget cinema is».
Quentin particularly noted «Welcome to Paradise» (4%) Rotten Tomatoes), «Under siege» (20% of Rotten Tomatoes) and «Deadlock» (10% of viewers Rotten Tomatoes) as the best of the ones he watched.
