ID.2X – VW’s most compact electric crossover with a price of about €30 thousand will be presented in September

VW will officially unveil its smallest electric SUV at the IAA motor show in Munich in September, CEO Thomas Schaefer announced. He went a step further and also confirmed the name of the upcoming electric vehicle: ID.2X (formerly known as ID.2all SUV). He also shared a sketch of the car.

The ID.2X will be part of the VW Group’s family of electric city cars, which also includes the ID.2, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq. All of them will be produced at the same plant near Barcelona in Spain. To make it easier to navigate these new models, think of the ID.2 as an electric Polo and the ID.2X as a replacement for the T-Cross.

The VW ID.2X is expected to be the taller «sibling of the» ID.2, targeting the all-important compact crossover market segment in Europe. The car will use the same shortened version of the VW MEB platform as the ID.2.

Sketch of VW ID.2X

According to the available information, the ID.2X will be offered with a single engine in the front, which will develop 223 hp: 38 kWh and 56 kWh. The latter should be sufficient for a range of about 451 km on the WLTP cycle. The larger battery will be charged with a DC power of up to 125 kW, which will allow restoring the energy reserve from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes.

The ID.2X will be about 4100 mm long, have a wheelbase of 2600 mm and offer more trunk space than the 490 liters of the ID.2. Inside, it should be almost identical to the ID.2, with a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a 10.9-inch digital driver’s instrument cluster. The climate and audio system will be controlled by physical switches.

It is expected that the VW ID.2 will cost about €25 thousand, and the ID.2X will cost about €30 thousand.

Recently it became known first details about Volkswagen ID.ONE – a city electric car for €20 thousand.
