After the favorable first reactions and absolutely a failed rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the new «Snow White» also debuted on IMDb — yesterday the movie’s rating dropped to a critical level, and today the service concealed.
According to Word of RealYesterday’s rating reached 2.3/10 based on more than 2 thousand votes.
Of course, we can assume that «Snow White» was review-bombed, given the fans’ attitude towards Rachel Zegler — but this assessment generally correlates with the conclusions of critics. They criticized almost everything in the film, from the visuals to the story, but on the contrary, they praised the lead actress’s performance
«Snow White» — is a reimagining of the classic 1937 Disney animated film by director Mark Webb («500 Days of Summer», «The Amazing Spider-Man»). Зegler plays the eponymous princess who is forced to travel to the forest after her stepmother, the evil queen (Gal Gadot), seizes control of her parents’ kingdom. Snow White meets the seven dwarfs, and together they come up with a plan to reclaim her domain.
Controversy surrounded the film from the beginning of production: fans did not appreciate the choice of a Colombian actress for the lead role, and then her statements added to the problems. Zegler claimed that she did not like the original film, called the prince «a stalker», and demonstrated a pro-Palestinian position, which also provoked rumors of a conflict with her co-star Gal Gadot, who is Israeli and served in the army.
Given that each of the trailers collected millions of dislikes before the movie’s release, such estimates are quite expected. However, it seems that the new «Snow White» has a chance to gather its audience, as the box office forecasts remain at $40-45 million for the «home» release. The film grossed $3.5 million at its preview screenings.
